Siobhan Finneran’s forgotten BBC sitcom that left fans ‘in tears of laughter’ is now on Netflix
Starting today, the British sitcom “The Other One,” featuring Siobhan Finneran from “Happy Valley,” can now be found on Netflix. It originally premiered on BBC One in 2020.
The show was created and managed by comedian and scriptwriter Holly Walsh, who has previously contributed to television projects such as “Motherland” and the upcoming spinoff series “Amandaland,” where Lucy Punch takes the lead role.
The narrative revolves around the characters Cathy Walcott, portrayed by Ellie White (known for her role in “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin” recently), and her sister Cat Walcott, played by Lauren Socha. They were oblivious to each other’s existence until their father tragically passed away, surprising them both.
In addition to the main cast, Rebecca Front, known for her role in Poldark, portrays Cathy’s mother, whereas Finneran takes on the character of Marilyn, a woman perceived as the “mistress,” who is also Cat’s mother.
In addition to the cast of “Happy Valley” and “Mr Bates vs The Post Office,” as well as “Men Behaving Badly” and “Ghosts,” Amit Shah, Caroline Quentin, Lolly Adefope, and Shobu Kapoor can also be seen in another comedy series.
The show’s inaugural season has earned a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the review in The Guardian, it’s a series with a heartfelt charm that still manages to be clever, and The Times referred to it as a delightful experience.
Viewers found themselves appreciating the movie titled “The Other One” quite a bit, receiving generally favorable responses. Critics described it as “quite amusing and hard to tear away from”, “unusual” and “enjoyable to watch” (according to IMDb)).

With the resurfaced series on Netflix, Siobhan Finneran is set to star in an upcoming ITV crime drama titled “Protection“. A sneak peek of this series has been released in the form of its initial trailer.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’d be thrilled to delve into a role reminiscent of crime dramas like “Happy Valley”. Stepping into the shoes of Detective Inspector Liz Nyles, I find myself right smack in the middle of a nerve-wracking predicament. It seems there’s been a significant security breach within my witness protection unit that I’ll have to navigate and solve. The stakes are high, but I’m ready for whatever challenges come my way!
The Other One is streaming now on Netflix, and is also still available on BBC iPlayer.
