The espionage movie garnered reviews ranging from favorable to quite good when it premiered in April, boasting an impressive ensemble of stars such as Rami Malek, who won an Oscar, Rachel Brosnahan known for her role as Superman’s partner, and Laurence Fishburne, a familiar face from The Matrix.
The Amateur derives its plot from Robert Littell’s novel and tells the story of a highly intelligent yet reclusive CIA decoder who takes matters into his own hands after his wife is tragically killed in a terrorist bombing in London. Digital Spy found it to be a “compelling” film, as reflected in their four-star review.

In this chilling thriller, it is Ayo Edebiri’s character from “The Bear” who takes center stage. The plot revolves around a writer venturing to the secluded estate of a missing pop star, portrayed by John Malkovich. As events unfold, she unwittingly becomes entangled in a sinister cult, uncovering the dark intentions behind the enigmatic figure’s gathering.
The film is the work of Mark Anthony Green, starring a talented ensemble that includes Juliette Lewis from “Yellowjackets,” Murray Bartlett from “The White Lotus,” and Amber Midthunder who shines in “Prey.
Yet, the film “Opus” didn’t receive high praise from critics, garnering a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its box office performance was also lackluster, bringing in only about $2 million worldwide. Now you can decide for yourself as it’s now available to stream digitally.
