Sinners’ Star Delroy Lindo Told Ryan Coogler He Wants ‘Black Panther 3’ Role

I’ve been so impressed watching Ryan Coogler’s career soar, especially this year! His film, Sinners, released in 2025, has been incredible – starring Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld, it actually earned a record-breaking 16 Academy Award nominations! Seeing it up for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay was amazing. And the best part? After this huge success, he’s going back to the MCU to continue his fantastic work with Black Panther. It’s really exciting to see what he’ll do next!

Although there’s no official title or release date for Black Panther 3 yet, many believe it will be one of the first movies to kick off Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. The film already has a star-studded cast, and it seems another familiar face from previous Black Panther movies might be joining the team.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his show Sinners, Delroy Lindo expressed interest in appearing in Black Panther 3. He said he’d “love to be in” the film and mentioned he’d spoken with director Ryan Coogler about wanting any potential role to be a meaningful one.

I told Ryan Coogler how much I’d love to be part of ‘Black Panther 3’ if everything worked out. He responded by saying he’d want any role he offered me to be a really worthwhile opportunity – something that felt deserving of my time. He didn’t put it exactly like that, but that was definitely the feeling he conveyed, and I really appreciated him saying so.

As a big Marvel fan, I was really excited when I first heard Mahershala Ali was cast in the new Blade movie. It’s been delayed a lot, and it sounds like things have changed quite a bit since the initial announcement back in 2019. Apparently, Mahershala Ali has since moved on from the project. I read he was originally going to play a character that reminded him of his role as Delta Slim in Sinners, which, by the way, earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor – a truly fantastic performance! It’s a shame things didn’t work out with Blade, but I’m still hoping we’ll see him in another Marvel role someday.

Whether Delroy Lindo will get to work with Ryan Coogler on Black Panther 3 is still uncertain, but the movie is already generating a lot of excitement because of its growing cast. Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku), and Danai Gurira (Okoye) are all likely to reprise their roles, especially after appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and potentially Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). And that’s just the beginning of who’s expected to join the film.

Denzel Washington, the Academy Award-winning actor, will be appearing in Black Panther 3, confirmed after initial reports surfaced in late 2024. Director Ryan Coogler has written a character into the film specifically for Washington, and his addition is expected to significantly enhance the already hugely successful Black Panther franchise, which has earned close to $2.2 billion from its first two movies alone.

Okay, so I’m hearing that Black Panther 3 is finally scheduled to start filming in June 2026! I’m so excited to see the familiar faces and characters return to Wakanda for another story. Of course, Marvel is keeping everything super secret, especially since Wakanda and Talokan are going to be involved in Avengers: Doomsday later that year. Knowing these heroes will be facing big threats, and with the possibility of a new Black Panther showing up, I’m already getting hyped to see where Marvel takes this story next. It feels like there’s so much potential!
