‘Sinners’ receives a heavenly reception during Easter weekend
Moviegoes embraced “sin” over the Easter weekend.
Sinners,” an eagerly awaited blend of horror, music, and vampires in a period drama setting, had a successful debut, leading the box office during the holidays with $45.6 million. This R-rated movie featuring Michael B. Jordan received positive reviews from both critics and audiences, earning them an “A” on CinemaScore.
In the second spot, we find “A Minecraft Movie,” consistently performing well and accumulating a total of $344.6 million over a span of three weeks, with earnings amounting to $41.3 million during that period.
Over the weekend, a powerful combination of “A Minecraft Movie” and “Sinners” accounted for an impressive 64%, making it fantastic news for Warner Bros., the studio responsible for producing these successful films.
In their statement, representatives from Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group expressed their excitement as they work tirelessly to offer a variety of films to cinema-goers. They are particularly pleased with the remarkable success that Ryan Coogler’s initial film ‘Sinners’ and the movie adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft have received among audiences.
Under the banner of their collaboration,” Sinners represents a fresh success for the duo comprising Jordan and Coogler. They initially joined forces in 2013 with Fruitvale Station, and reunited again for the 2015 revamp of Rocky, titled Creed, as well as the critically acclaimed Marvel movie, Black Panther.
The film marks Coogler’s first directorial turn since 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
In “Sinners,” author Jordan depicts the story of twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who come back to their ’30s Mississippi hometown to establish a juke joint. They find themselves in a whirlwind of peculiar circumstances and exciting escapades.
Prior to its launch, “Sinners” has been creating a stir in the media due to news items stating that it achieved a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (currently holding an impressive 98%). The film’s early success has set off whispers about potential award nominations.
This film is also unique as it’s the initial one filmed using IMAX cameras since the 2023 Oscar-winning film “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan. Coogler has been advocating for this format, urging audiences to watch “Sinners” in IMAX cinemas.

Review
Ryan Coogler’s gory and glorious ‘Sinners,’ a Southern vampire horror-musical, is a hell of a high
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the visionary mind behind “Creed” and “Black Panther,” has ventured into uncharted territory with an entirely unique production. This time around, Michael B. Jordan and gospel sensation Miles Caton are at the helm of this fresh project, marking a bold step away from franchise commitments.
