Singer Mimi Webb reveals which Disney star she embodies as she opens up about new music and overnight viral fame

British pop star Mimi Webb has opened up about how Disney is at the heart of everything she does.

The singer, who was named Best New Artist at the 2023 Brit Awards, recently told the Mail that working on her latest album felt like a form of therapy. She also admitted that becoming famous so quickly was frightening.

Amelia, known as Mimi, has partnered with Primark to launch her Disney-inspired clothing line, The Mouse & The Muse.

She shared that growing up, Hannah Montana really resonated with her. She was fascinated by the show’s concept of a character with a double life and two distinct personalities.

As an artist, I’ve really been able to explore my creativity, and I’m excited to now be expanding into the fashion world as well.

The show ‘Hannah Montana’ allowed Miley Cyrus to explore two sides of herself – her everyday persona and her pop star alter ego – and inspired many viewers to dream of becoming singers themselves.

‘I love the two identities she had, and that makes you feel like anything is possible really.

I go by Mimi Webb as my stage name, but my actual name is Amelia. I really enjoy exploring that dual identity in my music.

Mimi is the first British female artist since Dua Lipa to achieve the impressive feat of having two songs reach the top 15 on the UK charts before even releasing a full album.

And the House on Fire hitmaker credits her rise to fame to video-sharing app TikTok.

Oh my gosh, I still remember when I first discovered her! It was during lockdown, and she just started posting these incredible videos of herself singing in her car. Seriously, her voice was mesmerizing, and everyone started sharing them! Then, in 2023, she finally released her first album, ‘Amelia,’ and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It all started with those car videos though – that’s how the world found out just how special she is!

She told the Mail: ‘Three years before COVID, I was already like grafting away in the studio.

‘TikTok then became a huge thing and that’s when it really did happen for me overnight.

Getting back on stage after lockdown with a crowd of 30,000 people was an amazing experience – something you don’t expect to happen to you.

People always told me to savor every moment, and I finally understand why. Time really does fly by – it feels like everything happened in the blink of an eye.

I’m so excited for Mimi! She shared that she’s now hoping to try her hand at acting, which I think is fantastic. And she’s aiming to release her third album before the year is out – I can’t wait to hear it!

I’m eager to explore acting again – I enjoyed it a lot when I was younger. Right now, I’m open to any and all possibilities that come my way.

I’m working hard to get my new album released before the year is over. It’s deeply personal – I wanted to stay connected to my beginnings and write songs based on things I’ve actually lived through.

‘The music I am writing now does feel a bit more like a therapy session.

The music feels very emotional, genuine, and unfiltered, and I think that’s what truly connects with listeners.

It’s definitely nerve-wracking, but in a good way – it’s about stepping outside of what’s familiar. I’m really looking forward to challenging myself and experimenting more in the studio.

She described her new clothing line as a full-circle moment, reflecting her lifelong love for Disney. Growing up, she adored all the Disney princesses and would dress up as them. She said it feels surreal, and that her younger self would be thrilled with the collection.

Oh my gosh, my closet? It’s basically my sanctuary! I’ve always been a bit of a clothes person, and honestly, I still have pieces I bought eight years ago that I absolutely adore. I’m constantly mixing and matching them with newer things – it’s just the best feeling!

‘Disney has always had an impact on my music, it’s in a lot of what I do.’
