The composer behind Baywatch: Hawaii’s iconic theme, George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso, sadly passed away at the age of 55.
It’s been reported by Hawaii News Now that George died on Wednesday, surrounded by his loved ones on the tropical island nation of Fiji, which is where he was born.
The Polynesian News Network announced his passing, expressing in a statement that he was a beacon of change, a voice for the community, and a source of hope amidst adversity.
‘There was, and always will be, only one Fiji. His music wasn’t just something we listened to.’
Born in 1970, George grew up singing in church and moved to Hawaii in 1987.


In 1994, he published his debut album titled “Evolution,” while his second album, “Born & Raised,” climbed to the top of the charts in 1996.
This musician collaborated on the main melody for the TV series “Baywatch Hawaii,” where Jason Momoa played a role, and it was shot on an island from 1999 until 2001.
Additionally, he dabbled in acting, making an appearance in the 2002 surfing movie “Blue Crush” along with Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez.
In 2014, he was awarded the Best Pacific International Artist Award at the Pacific Music Awards.
In 2021, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant work in the Polynesian reggae genre.
Fans took to social media to pay tribute to George following the news of his passing.
