Following the completion of filming, Simu Liu, who stars in the upcoming movie *Avengers: Doomsday*, shared a new post on social media. The film will feature Shang-Chi, marking his return to the screen after his debut in 2021’s *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*.

On September 23, 2025, Simu Liu shared two shirtless photos on X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce he’d finished filming his work on the movie *Avengers: Doomsday*. The pictures – one taken at sunset and another in bright sunlight while wearing sunglasses – quickly gained over 238,000 views.
Simu Liu, who debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ doesn’t often share details about his Marvel work. Recently, he posted a selfie on Instagram showing him in front of a rack of costumes. A label on a bag reading “15. Shang-Chi” revealed it contained his costume for an upcoming project. Marvel Studios is clearly keeping the new look a secret until the movie is closer to release.
Simu Liu is returning as Shang-Chi, and his character is expected to have an enhanced suit, building on the one seen in his 2021 movie. The end of that film showed Shang-Chi teaming up with Wong, Captain Marvel, and Bruce Banner, hinting at a future with the Avengers. Rumors suggest that the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel’s bracelets will both be important elements in the upcoming Doomsday storyline.
The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday event will unite heroes from across the Marvel Universe, featuring teams like the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and New Avengers. Robert Downey Jr. will be back, this time playing the villain Doctor Doom, who poses a threat to all realities. Simu Liu is among the many confirmed heroes preparing to face Doom.
Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of the 2021 film *Shang-Chi*, was originally planned to direct the next *Avengers* movie. However, Marvel decided to go with a different director, but they kept Simu Liu as part of the cast. *Avengers: Doomsday* is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
