Simu Liu confirms Shang-Chi 2 is "definitely happening"

As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel fan who has weathered the storm of numerous delays and cancellations over the years, I can confidently say that the rumors about Shang-Chi 2 being scrapped are as misguided as a Hulk smash on a cosmic level.

2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is considered one of the top Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films released after Endgame. The movie garnered positive reception all around, making Simu Liu’s character a thrilling addition to the Avengers team. However, as of now, Marvel Studios has not made an official announcement regarding Shang-Chi 2; there seems to be some uncertainty surrounding its production.

It appears that the team at Marvel Studios has given significant thought to Shang-Chi, as reported by Inverse, who mentioned that initially, Shang-Chi was intended to play a major role in the next Avengers film. However, with Avengers 5 shifting focus from The Kang Dynasty to Doomsday, it’s possible that Shang-Chi’s part may have been revised or rescheduled.

Moving on to the topic of potential future installments for Shang-Chi, there seems to be some confusion due to its absence in Marvel Studios’ 2025 plan or beyond. This has sparked speculation and even rumors suggesting a cancellation. However, it appears these rumors may not be accurate. In a recent interview with The Press Trust of India, Simu Liu, the actor portraying Shang-Chi, confirmed that work on the much-anticipated sequel is indeed underway. He shared, “A lot of the details are beyond my control, but it’s definitely happening. I’m really excited to be a part of it and it’s going to be fantastic. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal any more than that.”

As a devoted fan, I can attest that sequels within the Marvel Cinematic Universe often have a knack for taking their sweet time to grace our screens. Take, for instance, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which finally premiered an impressive six years following his initial solo adventure. However, it’s worth noting that he didn’t shy away from making appearances across the franchise during those years between solo movies.

It seems quite likely that Shang-Chi will have another standalone film. His debut movie was exceptionally popular, even considering it came out during the pandemic. However, predicting the exact timeline requires some patience.
