Simon Kinberg is supposedly writing 3 new Star Wars movies
As a long-time Star Wars fan who has seen more than her fair share of rumors and announcements that never seem to come to fruition, I can’t help but approach the news of Simon Kinberg writing and producing three upcoming Star Wars films with a healthy dose of skepticism.
According to recent reports from Deadline, there’s a rumor that Simon Kinberg will be responsible for writing and producing three upcoming Star Wars movies. I’ll wait to confirm this news with some solid evidence first.
According to Mike Fleming Jr.’s sources, the deadlines for episodes 10-12 are set, but some people in the industry with different information believe it will be more akin to the standalone projects being developed by James Mangold and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. These other reporters hold this view.
I tend to take such reports with a grain of salt, especially when they come from a reliable source like Deadline, given the number of announced films and series that have failed to materialize. For instance, there’s Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, Taika Waititi’s movie, the Rian Johnson trilogy, the Lando Calrissian project penned by Donald Glover, and even the Rey Skywalker film. The pattern seems to be that these projects are announced, but we hear little about them for a long time before they eventually fade away. However, Daisy Ridley has been quite vocal about the Rey Skywalker movie being in progress.
The main factor that makes me think this could occur is Simon Kinberg’s past involvement with Lucasfilm. He was instrumental in creating “Star Wars Rebels” and provided consultation on “The Force Awakens.” Given their familiarity with his work and his strong rapport with the company, it’s not like the situation with Waititi who constantly juggles numerous projects at once.
Although such news seems intriguing, I remain cautious until there’s concrete evidence that the project has started. I’ll only be fully convinced once I witness its progress.
