Simon Fuller, American Idol Creator and Spice Girls Manager, Heading for Divorce After 17 Years
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share some recent news that has me a little shaken: The legendary talent manager Simon Fuller, who was the mastermind behind the Spice Girls phenomenon in the ’90s and went on to create American Idol in the 2000s, is allegedly facing divorce. This development has me reflecting on his incredible career and wondering what the future may hold for him.
On Friday, it became known that Natalie Swinston, an American wife of an English entrepreneur, submitted papers that day to legally end their marriage.
The event transpires three weeks prior to their 17th wedding anniversary, which was approaching.
As a die-hard fan, I’m sharing the news that Swinston is allegedly seeking alimony and is petitioning the court to prohibit her ex-spouse from claiming spousal support. It’s like she’s saying, “I’ve been taking care of you all these years, now it’s my turn!
She’s asked for shared legal guardianship over the three kids she shares with Fuller: a 14-year-old girl named Grace, as well as nine-year-old twin children, based on reports from TMZ.
It is reported that prior to their high-profile wedding at a vineyard in Napa Valley, Fuller and Swinston entered into a premarital contract.

She submitted divorce papers citing ‘unresolvable disagreements’ and stated that their separation took effect from this coming Friday, the day she lodged her paperwork.
Following a significant period of courtship, Fuller got married to Natalie Swinston on May 30, 2009 at an extravagant ceremony in Napa Valley. This high-profile event was graced by many celebrities such as the Spice Girls, Claudia Schiffer, Leona Lewis, and Annie Lennox.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar shortly after their wedding, he shared one key factor that contributes to the strength of their marriage: we hardly spend time apart from each other.
Having homes scattered across the globe gives us a unique advantage while we travel, as it ensures a semblance of our everyday lives no matter where we roam. Consequently, travel for us often doesn’t feel like work but more like an extended home stay.
In the 1990s, Fuller rose to prominence as the manager of the Spice Girls, often being referred to by the media as their “mastermind” or “influential figure.
2001 saw him launching the British reality show “Pop Idol,” which had a short lifespan, but when he translated it into the U.S. version called “American Idol” in 2002, he hit the jackpot, producing the popular television phenomenon that attracts millions of viewers today.
Furthermore, his managerial journey progressed, handling an impressive roster of musical artists that spanned from Annie Lennox to Amy Winehouse.
For a period, Fuller was responsible for managing the professional lives of notable figures such as Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson from American Idol, in addition to Lisa Marie Presley and Steven Tyler.

Throughout his professional journey, he has also taken charge of elite sportspeople, including tennis champion Andy Murray and auto racing icon Lewis Hamilton.
Yet, it’s worth noting that his most renowned sports connection was with David Beckham, who used to be married to his former Spice Girls client, Victoria Beckham.
Fuller collaborated with David on numerous business endeavors spanning whiskey, fashion, leisure, and sports. Through these collaborations, they helped shape David and his wife into the renowned brand known as ‘The Beckhams.’
In 2018, after over a decade of partnership, where Fuller assisted David in acquiring a Major League Soccer team, these two individuals decided to go their separate ways. It’s said that the footballer paid off his manager for approximately £38 million to secure full ownership.
