Simon Cowell Devastated Over Liam Payne’s Death: ‘You Can’t Bubble Wrap Everyone’

It’s reported that Simon Cowell broke down in tears, unable to hold back, upon learning about the passing of Liam Payne at the age of 31.

Close confidant and long-time companion of The X Factor mogul, Sinitta (age 61), shared insights about Simon’s (age 65) emotional response following Liam’s tragic demise in October, when the One Direction member fell from a balcony on the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires.

According to Sinitta, she shared with The Sun that “Simon was completely heartbroken. In our discussion, which was private in nature, Simon typically conceals his feelings, being rather stoic; however, this time, he could not hide it at all.

As he clutched the phone tightly, tears streamed down his face. This was the first time in my experience where someone seemed utterly helpless, and it struck me that usually, we turn to him for guidance when we’re lost. But this time, he was beyond despair.

He treated them as if they were his own children, accompanying them on their adventure, he felt deeply involved – almost as if he were the sixth traveler.

Sinitta said that fan criticism over Simon’s involvement in Liam’s troubled life has been ‘unfair’.

She stated that although some may think Simon ought to have done more in assisting, he was not responsible for Liam’s premature demise. Her explanation was along the lines of ‘Liam was an adult’ and ‘it’s impossible to protect everyone like a bubble wrap.’

Simon met Liam when he auditioned for X Factor for the very first time at the age of 14.  

Upon hearing about his passing, Simon paid a heartfelt tribute to the affectionate, humorous, and gifted pop star, who always kept his fans in mind.

He wrote: ‘You never really know how you feel about someone until a moment like this happens.

Dear Liam, I find myself in a state of profound sorrow, my heart shattered and soul hollowed out. Yet, amidst this pain, I cannot help but express the depth of my affection and admiration for you. Each drop that falls from my eyes is a testament to the memories we’ve shared.

Currently, I’m finding it challenging to express my feelings adequately. Today, I stepped outdoors, and a wave of memories shared with you swept through my mind.

Additionally, it was evident that you always kept your fan base in mind. Your dedication to interacting with those eager to meet you showcased your genuine concern and care for them.

Last year, you dropped by my place not for an appointment, but to have a casual chat over some shared memories of our enjoyable moments together.

Reflecting on it now, your fatherly pride was truly heartwarming. Leaving only served to remind me once more of the gentle, compassionate young man I first came to know long ago.

He continued: ‘I have met your son, Bear. He has your smile and that twinkle in his eyes you have.

‘And he will be so proud of everything you achieved. And how you achieved it.

In my perspective, the five members of your band have always felt like brothers to me. Reading your messages today reinforces this feeling, suggesting that you truly acted as brothers.

‘And now Liam, I can see the effect you had on so many people. Because you left us too soon.

‘Rest in peace my friend. And I am sending my love, thoughts and prayers to your family.

At Liam’s funeral, Simon was consoled by his parents, Geoff and Karen, who were visibly upset.

Reflecting on a profoundly moving moment, I stood solemnly outside the church where a heartwarming tribute unfolded for Liam, who left us too soon. This emotional gathering celebrated his life and memory in a service that brought tears to many eyes.

At a small distance, Simon’s companion, Lauren, watched as he had a personal moment with the mourning pair who were saying their last goodbyes. A beautiful arrangement of flowers by the deceased artist’s casket spelled out the touching tribute: ‘Son.’

In light of the pop star’s demise, the influential figure in the music industry likewise postponed the auditions for Britain’s Got Talent.

He decided last minute to call off the auditions in Blackpool as he discovered the shocking news.
