‘Silo’ Season 3: Release Window, Cast, Plot, & Everything We Know

Apple TV+’s Silo is a critically acclaimed series, like many of the platform’s original shows. It’s a science fiction drama based on the novels Wool, Shift, and Dust by Hugh Howey. The show is set in a future where the surface of the Earth is considered uninhabitable, and the last of humanity lives in massive underground bunkers. When engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) begins to doubt those in charge, and seeks the truth about the world outside after a personal loss, she rises to a position where she can finally investigate.

Season two takes a dark turn when Jules escapes the silo and quickly learns the outside world is truly perilous. She encounters an eccentric man named Solo (Steve Zahn) and uncovers a startling truth. Her final confrontation with Bernard (Tim Robbins), the ambitious head of the silo’s IT department, has disastrous consequences – the full extent of which won’t be revealed until season three.

‘Silo’ Season 3 Is Expected for 2026

The show Silo is planned to have four seasons in total, making season three the second-to-last one. Good news for fans: seasons three and four were filmed together, so we likely won’t have a long wait between them.

Filming for Season 3 is believed to have finished between May and June 2025, with plans to immediately begin work on Season 4. While Season 2 ran from November 2024 to January 2025, we don’t yet have a release date for Season 3. Considering Season 1 premiered in May 2023 and Season 2 in November 2024, Season 3 is likely to arrive sometime in the second half of 2026. It’s almost certain that Season 3 will be released in 2026, unless there are unexpected production issues. The delay is due to filming both seasons consecutively, but Season 4 is expected to follow soon after.

Who Will (And Won’t) Appear in Silo Season 3?

Most of the original cast is expected back for Season 3 of Silo, though a few characters won’t be returning. Pete is confirmed to be dead and may only appear in flashbacks or memories. Judge Meadows (Tanya Moodie) also died after being poisoned, so she too would likely only appear in flashbacks. Additionally, Terry “Coop” Cooper (Matt Gomez Hidaka), who was a loyal engineer and previously worked with Jules, was killed during the uprising.

Honestly, seeing Lukas step up is huge. Now that he’s shared what he knows with Bernard, it feels like he’s become a real power player in the silo. Poor Bernard was so shaken up, he basically just handed everything over to Sims – made him head of IT, the whole nine yards. It’s a complete shift in power, and I’m really curious to see what happens next.

Interestingly, when Detective Sims investigates the Vault, only his wife, Camille (Alexandria Riley), is allowed inside. Both Sims and Camille are expected to return – Sims struggling with a bruised ego, realizing he isn’t as valued as he believed, and Camille navigating her duties as a wife and mother while earning more respect from the Vault’s leaders than her husband.

Daniel and Helen will be major characters this season, and the actors who play them – Henwick and Zuckerman – have joined the main cast. The show will also reveal the origins of the silos and the people responsible for building them. Both actors are confirmed as series regulars, meaning they’ll be featured throughout the entire season.

It’s likely Zahn McClarnon will reprise his role as Solo/Jimmy, as he was a fan favorite in Season 2 and is uniquely positioned to assist Jules. Martha Walker, who plays Harriet, is also expected to return, offering support to Jules from within the story.

The show is also likely to bring back Claire Perkins as Carla, Chinaza Uche as Paul Billings, Rick Gomez as Patrick Kennedy, Shane McRae as Knox, and Remmie Miller as Shirley, though this hasn’t been officially announced. A major question is how much of the story set inside the silo will be revealed in Season 3 versus Season 4. However, the show promises to answer all outstanding questions across these final two seasons.

‘Silo’ Season 3 Will Focus on a Backstory

While details are still emerging, Season 3 will largely center around the events leading up to the apocalypse. The post-credits scene in the previous season hinted at this, showing a meeting between politician Daniel (Ashley Zuckerman) and journalist Helen (Jessica Henwick) discussing a radioactive attack. It’s now confirmed that Daniel played a key role in creating the silos, and the yellow duck Pez dispenser from Season 1 belonged to him.

In January 2025, the show’s creator, Graham Yost, revealed to TVLine that the third season would feature outdoor scenes and “sunshine.” This suggests the season will use flashbacks to a time before the silos were built. People magazine reported that the story will be based on the second book in the series, Shift, and will be set three hundred years before the silos were constructed, when the Earth’s surface became a desolate wasteland.

According to Time magazine, the show will delve deeper into the history of the Pez dispensers and reveal more about what happened in silo 17, where Juliette lives. We’ll find out why people started leaving the silo and what became of them after they did.

Daniel’s character, Donald, played a crucial role in creating the silo system – a supposed safeguard built to protect people from a nuclear attack by Iran. The new season will delve deeper into the story of the bomb itself and the events that caused the silos to be built.

Continuing the Story From ‘Silo’ Season 2

It’s still uncertain how faithful the show Silo will be to the source material. While the first two seasons generally stuck to the main plot of the books, they introduced new characters, elements like relics, and made some changes to important events, all while unfolding at a deliberate pace. However, Season 3 appears to focus heavily on the past, exploring events from centuries ago and the world outside the silo. This likely means Jules’ story will progress even more slowly, interwoven with these historical flashbacks. Ultimately, this slower pace is crucial to the show’s overall quality.

By the end of the second season, Jules had a fully sealed suit thanks to Solo, allowing her to return to the silo. However, she discovered Bernard already suited up and preparing to leave. His unwavering devotion to the silo had crumbled after his actions were revealed and challenged by others, and Lukas shared unsettling information that deeply disturbed him. Jules and Bernard became trapped together in the airlock, both wearing suits, and a fire broke out.

We anticipate Jules will survive, but Bernard’s fate is less certain unless there’s an unexpected turn of events. Now that both of them know the leaders can secretly release poison into the silo, potentially killing everyone, there’s a lot to consider. Adding to the drama, Jules is still unaware that her father, Pete, died a hero, sacrificing himself to save her and the others.

The unrest within the silo is likely to worsen after Jules shares what she knows about the pipe and her experiences outside. Once people discover she was forced out, not a volunteer, it will fuel even greater outrage.

We’re wondering how much of the story within the silo will be revealed in Season 3, and how much will be held back for the final season, which will benefit from having the full backstory revealed. Apple has announced that Seasons 3 and 4 will wrap up the book series, promising a fulfilling resolution to all the mysteries and unanswered questions inside the silos.
