Silent Hill 2 remake lands impressive Metacritic score
As a seasoned survivor of countless nights spent in Silent Hill, I have to admit that I was initially skeptical about this remake. After all, the original is etched into my nightmares as an unforgettable experience. But after reading these reviews, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and excitement.
The Silent Hill 2 remake has landed an impressive Metacritic score.
Today, the review restrictions were lifted, allowing the initial critiques of Bloober Team’s horror game to be published. From what we’ve seen so far, it appears to be a fantastic remake that respectfully honors its predecessor.
Right now, the remake has a Metacritic score of 87 based on 53 reviews.
On OpenCritic, the current average score stands at 88 out of 100, derived from 35 professional reviews, and boasts a commendable 91% recommendation rate.
The highly anticipated release of the game has been set for Tuesday, October 8, on both PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. So, the wait isn’t much longer anymore!
Here’s what some of the critics have been saying about Silent Hill 2:
Eurogamer – 5/5
Despite long odds, Bloober Team skillfully crafted a remake that sensibly enlarges upon the original “Silent Hill 2” in select areas, while meticulously maintaining its core aspects.
IGN – 8/10
The game seems a bit excessive in certain areas, and it would have been beneficial if Bloober Team simplified some of the complex puzzle segments to maintain the narrative flow without interruptions.
Despite occasional hiccups with the pacing, Silent Hill 2 remains an exceptional journey, or re-journey, into one of the scariest locales ever crafted within the realm of survival horror.
VG247 – 5/5
In essence, longtime fans of the original “Silent Hill 2” will find themselves pleasantly astonished by this remake, while those less acquainted are eagerly anticipating an exciting (and undeniably emotional) experience.
GameSpot – 9/10
Through faithful adherence to the core elements of the original game and daring to push boundaries based on their deep knowledge of the source material, backed by some of the game’s original creators, Bloober Team has achieved what was thought nearly impossible. The remake of Silent Hill 2 is a long-desired dream realized with an air of restlessness.
GamesRadar+ – 3.5/5
Regardless of your method, Silent Hill 2 stands as a chilling and gratifying horror game that competes with the remakes of Resident Evil in terms of redefining a timeless genre.
Although there are some small problems here and there, the criticism seems to stem more from the expectation that the latest remake of Silent Hill 2 could have been even better, rather than it being truly poor.
The remake of Silent Hill 2 will be available for play on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 8, 2024. However, those who opt for the Deluxe Edition can start playing it as early as October 6, 2024.
