Sigourney Weaver understands why some fans were uncomfortable with a kissing scene in Avatar: The Seed Bearer involving her character and a younger actor. She acknowledged the concerns were valid. In the movie, Weaver plays Kiri, a teenage Na’vi, after previously portraying human scientist Grace Augustine in the original 2009 Avatar film.
Sigourney Weaver reprised her role as Kiri, a character created from Grace’s avatar and raised by Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) in the subsequent films.
In the third movie of the series, Kiri, played by Sigourney Weaver, forms a romantic connection with a young human named Spider (Jack Champion), who is the son of Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). Their relationship eventually leads to a kiss.

Viewers expressed concern about the filming of the scene because the actor playing Spider was a teenager between 14 and 16 years old, while the actress playing Weaver was in her seventies.
I recently chatted with The Hollywood Reporter, and Sigourney Weaver explained that she and her scene partner actually filmed their parts at different times. Apparently, she never planned for that footage to be combined with what John Boyega did, so it was a surprise when it ended up that way!

She explained that the scene with the line ‘You’re perfect just as you are’ required careful handling because it involved a kiss. She confirmed that she didn’t actually kiss her young co-star, Jack, who was either 14 or 15 years old.
Weaver explained that Jack chose someone for her to kiss, and while she was away, that person likely selected someone suitable for Jack.
There was a valid worry about how believable the scene would be, and I’m happy it made the final cut. When I watched it, I found it completely convincing. The connection between the two characters felt very real, and any concerns about the actors’ ages just didn’t matter.

Although the kiss was filmed in separate takes, actress Weaver confirmed it only happened once, stating, “It was just that single moment.”
She described filming scenes with Spider as a welcome break. She explained that their playful interactions were a joyful escape, allowing her to enjoy a lighter, happier dynamic as her character genuinely loved spending time with him.
I wasn’t sure how much taller I’d be than him – maybe around 6’4″, and he’s probably about 5’8″. It’s really noticeable on screen that I’m much taller. As a tall woman, I think the height difference actually works really well. I love that we don’t match – it feels just right.
