As a passionate cinephile, “You’ll Like My Mother” wasn’t merely another acting gig for me; it was a transformative experience that propelled my career to new heights. The film garnered me a nomination for the Star of the Year award at the 1973 Golden Globes, an honor which ultimately went to Diana Ross for her captivating performance in “Lady Sings the Blues.” Remarkably, this role marked the commencement of my creative journey with Thomas. Although our relationship was fleeting, it paved the way for my marriage (and subsequent divorce) to Peter Gelblum in 1979.

At this time, Allen played Jenny Pendleton, the romantic interest of Thomas’s character John-Boy Walton. Throughout the 70s, Allen landed a consistent string of smaller roles in shows such as “Marcus Welby, M.D.”, “Ironside”, “Baretta” and “The Incredible Hulk”.
