Shudder original film Bloody Axe Wound will come to theatres in December
As a long-time fan of horror and dark humor, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation for “Bloody Axe Wound”. With a cast that includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known for his chilling portrayal of Negan on “The Walking Dead”, and Billy Burke from “Outbreak”, this film promises to be a rollercoaster ride of fear and laughter.
The trailers for the upcoming original film “Bloody Axe Wound,” produced by Shudder and RLJE Films, have been released. This chilling movie is set to hit theaters this month. In the coming weeks or months, it’s expected that “Bloody Axe Wound” will also be streamed on Shudder, following the pattern of releases for films like “Late Night With the Devil” and “In a Violent Nature.
The film titled “Bloody Axe Wound” features Sari Arambulo, Molly Brown, Eddie Leavy, and the notable actors Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Billy Burke. Hilary Burton Morgan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are also involved in its production under Mischief Farm.
Undeniably, horror enthusiasts would recognize Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known for his chilling portrayal of Negan, a character loved to loathe on The Walking Dead. His spouse, Hilary Burton Morgan, graced the show as Negan’s wife Lucille, whose character shares the name with his infamous barbed-wire bat – the same bat used to brutally kill Glenn and Abraham in one of the most tense episodes on TV, an episode that I believe left an indelible mark on me.
For the movie “Bloody Axe Wound”, the plot isn’t completely clear from its trailer and description. And let me tell you, that unsettling wolf mask in the trailer has certainly reminded me of Shudder’s latest original series, “The Creep Tapes“. Don’t you think they resemble each other quite a bit?
Based on the summary provided in the press release, The protagonist, Abbie Bladecut, is a teenager who comes from a family with a violent past. They film and sell real-life murder videos in Clover Falls. However, Abbie is torn between upholding her family’s bloody legacy and following her heart after she develops her first crush. Her father, Roger, is deeply involved in this gruesome business. But Abbie questions whether she should follow the same path.
Bloody Axe Wound will debut in select theatres on December 27.
Based on the initial glimpses from the images and the trailer, it’s clear that “Bloody Axe Wound” lives up to its title with plenty of gore. However, this film is categorized as a horror comedy, which is evident in the trailer as well. Movies like “Shaun of the Dead,” “Werewolves Within,” “Deadstream,” and “Scare Me” have shown that horror comedies thrive when they seamlessly combine humor with genuinely terrifying scenes. Thus, considering the trailer, it seems that “Bloody Axe Wound” could be a strong contender for the horror comedy sub-genre.
