Should you play Love and Deepspace: Is LaDS your next gacha addiction?
Love and Deepspace is getting increasingly popular – is this game for you?
Is Love and Deepspace soaring high among the best gacha games? Here’s a look at what it offers to help you decide if it’s worth giving it a try. So, is Love and Deepspace suitable for you? Let’s find out together!
A quick look at Love and Deepspace
In January 2024, the game titled LaDS was introduced, which falls under the otome category – a type of video game popular among female gamers originating from Japan. Unlike traditional games in this genre, however, it boasts a 3D approach rather than being a visual novel as is common with other otome games. Yet, it doesn’t abandon its roots entirely; visual novel elements are seamlessly integrated throughout the gameplay.
As an enthusiastic gamer, I’m thrilled to share that this captivating game can be played on both iOS and Android devices. What’s unique about it is that it seamlessly shifts between portrait and landscape modes, offering a flexible gaming experience. The initial download is approximately 3GB, but once you dive into the game, an additional 12GB or so will be downloaded.
LaDS Companions
At the present moment when this text is being composed, there are five principal characters, or associates, in the game. These associates occasionally introduce new characters, with Caleb being the latest to join Xavier, Zayne, Sylus, and Rafayel. Each of these five characters has significant interactions, distinct wardrobes, and a wealth of content that becomes accessible as you advance your bond with them or gather “Memories” through the game’s gacha system.
The game offers fully-voiced dialogue in English, Japanese, and Chinese. Similar to the otome genre, LaDS emphasizes its voice acting significantly, so most of your interactions with the Companions are audible. Additionally, the English version includes an added feature that allows you to customize the main character’s voice using various controls and filters for a more immersive experience.
LaDS gameplay
In LaDS, there is a combat feature, but it serves more as an additional aspect rather than the primary emphasis. Instead, the heart of the game lies in the diverse relationships you can build with its multiple characters, which are set to increase in number.
This interaction involves exciting trips, private encounters, and a highly personalized photo feature that allows you to position your Character alongside your Companion for memorable snaps.
To advance your Memories, you must engage in battles, though this isn’t always essential for moving forward with the main plot. It’s crucial to understand this aspect because your companions can only be unlocked as you progress through the story. LaDS employs an energy system, but it’s quite lenient when it comes to managing this feature.
Gacha system
In typical fashion for free-to-play gacha games, certain banners allow you to draw for items called “memories”. Before entering a fight, these memories can be equipped, though their primary function is to enhance your interaction with your Companion.
These experiences span a wide variety, encompassing voice messages as well as immersive, interactive scenarios where you engage with the Companion in a three-dimensional setting.
The game strongly emphasizes the sense of not wanting to miss out (FOMO). Most memories are only accessible through Limited Editions, and during its first year, reruns have been quite rare. However, the game compensates somewhat as Love and Deepspace offer numerous play pulls and substantial rewards just for logging in.
Should you play Love and Deepspace?
If you enjoy otome games and have a device to play them on, Love and Deepspace is definitely worth giving it a shot. Even if you’re hesitant due to the game’s gacha system, as a new player, you’ll find that the experience is quite generous. You’ll receive numerous chances to obtain high-quality Memories. Although this generosity may not last long, it gives you ample time to familiarize yourself with the game during your initial weeks of playing LaDS without feeling overwhelmed by the gacha system.
Playing the game strategically can involve focusing on just one or two companions as well. If any of the five suitors the game provides appeal to you, then do consider giving the game a try too.
As a devoted admirer, I must say that Love and Deepspace caters exceptionally well to its target demographic. If you find it doesn’t quite resonate with your gaming preferences, or if gacha games generally aren’t your cup of tea, then feel free to give this game a miss. The triumph of Love and Deepspace is likely to spark a revival in the otome gaming scene, so brace yourself for an influx of similar games gracing the gaming market soon!
