In a well-crafted Hallmark Rom-Com, it’s essential to include the pivotal scene where the couple shares their first kiss. This moment is the resolution after the emotional rollercoaster of will-they-or-won’t-they tension. It’s the culmination of the anticipation built throughout the story. However, when considering the details of that kiss, such as how it should look or taste, or whether there should be any tongue involvement, these aspects are subjective and can vary based on the unique dynamics of each romantic pairing in the film.
At San Diego Comic-Con, I recently had an engaging encounter with several familiar faces from Hallmark’s film and television universe. We discussed their exciting upcoming projects, but most intriguingly, we delved into a long-standing debate: In the iconic movie kiss, should the actors ever give us a hint of tongue? To quench your curiosity, here are insights from Chyler Leigh, Holland Roden, Erin Cahil, and other beloved Hallmark stars.

In simpler terms, according to Tyler Hynes, known from Letterkenny, a good kiss between co-stars should be comfortable for both parties. It shouldn’t be overly passionate like teenagers in a car, but it also shouldn’t be just a quick peck. The audience should sense the passion and tension release, but it shouldn’t feel like they’re about to start undressing each other. As Christine Taylor from The Wedding Singer said, it should be like church tongue – passionate yet respectful.
One thing I really enjoy about Hallmark is that you frequently recognize the same cast members. The network manages to introduce a modest amount of fresh talent, but overall, you become quite familiar with a few dozen actors who are featured in multiple films or television shows annually. This consistency, in turn, makes it entertaining for us at TopMob to guess which actors might be open to romantic scenes and which ones might prefer to steer clear of such content.
Despite their feelings about lip-locking scenes on camera, many actors are set to reappear in future films. Although the beloved holiday movie season is still a few months away, eager viewers no longer have to wait. Hallmark has announced a busy schedule with at least one premiere every weekend, occasionally even two.
Many of the shows fall into the traditional romance category, but the network has expanded its offerings to include mystery series as well. While these mysteries may occasionally involve flirtatious interactions, often you’ll have to watch several movies before they share a kiss. However, this prolonged anticipation makes the eventual kiss even more rewarding. Additionally, waiting for a few movies is much less arduous than the lengthy waits we endured on some classic network TV procedurals in the past.
