He finds it tough to genuinely care for others, yet during the Civil War, numerous Confederate soldiers seek his counsel. This is particularly evident in one scene where a dying soldier pleads with Elijah to pray for him as he breathes his final breaths. Elijah complies, but there’s a comedic awkwardness as he takes some time before starting his prayer.

In a surprising twist at the end of “The Righteous Gemstones,” I found myself drawn into an uncannily parallel predicament for Jesse, Judy, and Kelvin. Following an act of self-defense that left Corey wounded, the trio moved cautiously towards him. As consciousness returned to Corey, he pleaded with them to pray for his salvation – a request they reluctantly granted. Much like Elijah’s prayer scene, their efforts felt awkward and stilted as they fumbled through their emotions before eventually finding their rhythm.
