Shocking Secrets of Ruby Franke: The Disturbing Truth Behind Her Vlogging Empire

In an unsettling, previously unseen home video, Ruby Franke is captured making a menacing threat to sever the head of one of her daughter’s stuffed cat toys.

In a menacing tone, the distorted Mommy Blogger displayed a blue toy figure and warned the young child, approximately two years old: ‘Should you damage another item in my home, I will immediately sever your pet cat’s head!’

In the video, Franke, who was imprisoned last year for up to 30 years due to child abuse charges, demonstrated her point by forming a scissor-like grip around the cat’s neck.

In the upcoming documentary “Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke“, airing on Hulu this coming Thursday, you’ll find some unsettling video clips.

The movie uncovers the entries from a diary that 43-year-old Franke had on her nightstand. In this diary, she documented the mistreatment she inflicted upon her two younger children, a boy of ten and his sister.

In her journal, she refers to her kids as ‘Satan’ and scolds her son for not feeling sorry about taking water, despite her withholding food from him.

In 2023, Franke was taken into custody following an incident where her son fled their residence in St George, Utah, and sought assistance from a nearby neighbor after running away.

Shockingly, the police found that he was severely malnourished and bore severe wounds on his ankles, which were concealed with tape.

Or:

In a startling revelation, the police discovered that he was extremely thin and had deep cuts on his ankles, hidden under tape.

Frankie, well-known for sharing her experiences as a mother of six through vlogging, was taken into custody, along with her spiritual guide Jodi Hildenbrant, aged 55, a therapist who had been hosting them at her residence.

Last year, they admitted their guilt for child abuse and are currently serving prison terms that might extend over several decades.

A team of documentarians were granted permission to examine approximately 1,000 hours of unpublished home video recordings, which hadn’t been shared on Franke’s widely-viewed YouTube channel, “8 Passengers.” This channel documented their everyday life as a Mormon family in Utah.

In the movie, her ex-husband, Kevin, expresses that love for Ruby equates to obedience. He implies that if she ever defies him, she will feel fear.

In this video, the cat is seen clutched tightly by the owner’s left hand, as she scolds her child angrily. The daughter breaks down in tears upon hearing that the cat named Ruby might lose her head.

In another scene, we see Franke with her oldest child, Chad, who apologizes for his uneasy gaze towards her as he was feeling ‘nervous’. She advises him to ‘simply be yourself’, and when Chad mentions that he is indeed being himself, Ruby retorts: ‘Then alter it!’

The videos demonstrate various strategies that Franke employed, enabling her to persuade her kids to adhere to a persistent recording routine, which ultimately led to over two million YouTube subscribers.

In one video, the children appear disheartened, yet she says to them: ‘Is it not familiar to you that this is our routine, and each person who assists receives $10 for a video? Would you like $10 for your part in this?’

Even Kevin got in on the act and in one video says that Chad is being ‘terrible’.

In a straightforward manner, Kevin reprimanded his children involved in the family Vlogging business by saying, “We’re all here for our work, and it seems like you don’t take it seriously enough.

The film narrates the story of Ruby Franke, who was so captivated by Hildenbrandt’s charm that they invited her to live with them in their household.

After some strange occurrences, Kevin narrates the movie, detailing how Hildenbrandt fell into states resembling possession.

In the video, Hildenbrandt is heard using an unusual deep tone, repeatedly asserting “Mine! Mine! Mine! She recognizes!” followed by self-inflicted strikes and exclaiming “I possess her!” instead.

According to Kevin, it was necessary to expel malevolent entities residing within Hildenbrandt, as they displayed reactions whenever Jesus’s name was mentioned.

Shari, Ruby’s oldest child, along with Kevin, share in the documentary that they suspect there was some form of relationship between Ruby and Hildenbrandt.

Kevin describes it as “more than just a sisterhood,” implying that when they shared the same living space and even slept together, the closeness was almost uncomfortably personal.

During the year following Ruby’s expulsion of Kevin and Chad from their residence in Springfield, Utah, the most severe instances of mistreatment occurred.

As a die-hard admirer looking back, I can’t help but notice that my beloved Shari had already embarked on her college journey, leaving our family nest. The two younger siblings, ever eager for adventure, seemed to have taken up the habit of crashing at friends’ places whenever they could manage it.

That left the two youngest of the six siblings at their mother’s mercy, the documentary says.

Frank frequently visited Hildenbrandt’s residence in St. George, a house that included a ‘safe room’. Upon investigation, the authorities discovered handcuffs, ropes, strong adhesive tape, and a cayenne pepper solution believed to have been applied to the children’s injuries.

In my commitment to truthfulness, one of the strongest proofs that pointed towards Franke’s wrongdoing was her personal records – a diary she kept by her bedside, detailing the mistreatment she inflicted upon her own offspring.

The text explains that she believed her two youngest children were under the influence of Satan, and she felt compelled to punish them physically and withhold food in order to expel the evil spirit from them.

In clear handwriting Franke calls her son a ‘snake’ who must submit to ‘painful good works’.

At some point, she expresses her feelings towards her son by saying, “I won’t nourish an unholy creature,” and describes him as being greedy and immoral.

In another part suggesting their lack of sensitivity, Ruby mentions lightly jabbing her son with a cactus, but he remained unfazed, showing no reaction at all.

In a moment of extreme thirst, the boy became so desperate that he even stuck his head into the toilet bowl. This action earned him a stern reprimand from his mom. Even though she hadn’t given him any food, she still scolded him for allegedly taking the water.

Additionally, she confessed to giving the boy a sedative, binding herself to him during his sleep, and forcing him to perform ten push-up sets.

Ruby writes that her son became so desperate he demanded to be taken to jail ‘where I belong’.

During film interviews, St. George police officers disclosed that Franke’s youngest son stated he was compelled to stay under the sun for extended periods, restrained with weights, and made to bounce on a trampoline throughout the day.

They were compelled to traverse the scorching ‘Hellhole Road’ in the desert, with their brother and sister having no choice but to endure the intense heat while running.
