Shocking Kryptonite Reveal in James Gunn’s Superman Trailer Leaves Fans Speechless!

In the recently released Superman trailer, we got our first glimpse at what Kryptonite appears to be in James Gunn’s DCU, and hinted at how it could impact David Corenswet’s portrayal of Clark Kent. The official Superman trailer has provided answers to many questions that fans have been eagerly awaiting regarding the upcoming movie. For instance, it demonstrated Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern powers for the first time and possibly revealed a crucial plot point involving one character’s redemption arc.

In James Gunn’s DCU for the first time, Green Kryptonite made an appearance in the official trailer of Superman. The element was merely hinted at during the three-minute long trailer, leaving many questions unanswered. However, it is clear from the footage that one significant character will employ Kryptonite to restrain Superman, and this person isn’t Lex Luthor.

In the trailer for Superman, the initial appearance of Kryptonite occurred during a scene where Superman was engaged in dialogue with Metamorpho, a character known to transform various elements on command, portrayed by Anthony Carrigan, previously seen as Victor Zsasz on the Gotham TV series.

In the recently released trailer, there’s a quick scene showing Metamorpho creating crystals with his hands, followed by another where a green light emanates from his left hand. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that in one particular shot, Superman is depicted on all fours, looking unwell and apparently influenced by Kryptonite.

In the given scene, it’s apparent that Metamorpho is producing Green Kryptonite because of its vibrant green hue. Since Green Kryptonite can be lethal to beings from Krypton like Superman, it seems that Metamorpho could prove to be a significant challenge for Superman in the series titled “Superman“.

Among various kinds of Kryptonite, it’s Green Kryptonite that’s most frequently encountered, and interestingly enough, this is the one being used by Metamorpho in the trailer we discussed earlier.

Additionally, it’s interesting to point out that certain viewers have speculated that a specific frame from the trailer provides a glimpse into how Clark Kent may encounter Kryptonite in the forthcoming DC Universe movie.

In this scene of the trailer, Clark can be seen lying on a bed at the Kent farm in Kansas, evidently unwell. A closer inspection reveals that the veins on his neck and face are swollen and appear discolored, hinting at potential Kryptonite poisoning.

In this particular scene, it seems plausible that Superman may encounter an incident involving Kryptonite, leading to his injury. Subsequently, he might need to seek assistance by returning to his home.

It’s important to mention that the source of Kryptonite can vary depending on its type. For instance, the most common kind, Green Kryptonite, originates from the planet Krypton itself, making it to Earth following Krypton’s destruction. On the other hand, Blue Kryptonite was not a native element of Krypton; instead, it was synthesized using the Duplicator Ray on a piece of Green Kryptonite and has no harmful effects on Kryptonians.

In the potential scenario for Gunn’s work within the DC Universe, there might be various forms of Kryptonite introduced. However, it is more probable that the primary emphasis in Superman will revolve around Green Kryptonite.

The highly-anticipated movie featuring the iconic character Superman is slated for release on July 11, 2025. This film has been penned and directed by James Gunn, marking the beginning of a fresh era in the DC Universe under Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership. In this new installment, David Corenswet portrays Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan takes on Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult steps into the shoes of Lex Luthor, while Skyler Gisondo plays Jimmy Olsen. Why Is Metamorpho Using Kryptonite on Superman?

It might come as a shock to some that Metamorpho employs Kryptonite against Superman. Given that Metamorpho is widely recognized as a hero, it’s interesting to note that Anthony Carrigan, who portrays him, revealed during his interview with Deadline that he would be assuming the role of a superhero rather than a villain.

I’m absolutely delighted to be involved! I feel privileged to take on this role and portray a hero. In addition, it’s quite cool, to say the least!”

Or, if you prefer a more informal tone:

“I’m stoked to be a part of it! I’m beyond honored to play this character, especially since he’s a hero. And let me tell you, that’s totally awesome!

Indeed, it appears that Metamorpho may not be intentionally attempting to harm Superman for personal benefit. Then again, one might wonder, precisely what is his objective in these actions?

In just a swift moment during the Superman trailer, there’s a scene where a woman appears to be locked up alongside Metamorpho. It seems plausible that this woman could be Sapphire Stagg, another character being detained by Lex Luthor.

It seems highly plausible that Lex is manipulating Metamorpho into producing Kryptonite for his personal gain, keeping Superman weakened in the process. He may have threatened to harm Sapphire Stagg if she refused his demand.

To clarify, Sapphire Stagg and Metamorpho have a long-standing romantic relationship as depicted throughout their various stories.

It seems more likely that Metamorpho isn’t manufacturing Kryptonite out of personal preference or ill-will towards Superman, but rather due to his concern for Sapphire Stagg and the potential consequences if she doesn’t comply with Lex’s instructions.
