Shock moment Sunrise host Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington is pushed into a pool of ice water during live cross
On Monday morning, Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington was met with an icy greeting following his unexpected dip in freezing water during a live broadcast.
46-year-old Sunrise presenter, clad in a penguin costume during his morning broadcast, unexpectedly dove into the chilly waters of the Melbourne Cricket Grounds.
However, the TV personality braved an icy plunge during Big Freeze 11 not just for fun, but in support of a noble endeavor – increasing public awareness and generating funds for Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
Since 2014, the charity founded by Neale Daniher has amassed more than $115 million to combat Motor Neuron Disease (MND) since it first began operations.
Shirvo shared with the camera that while he isn’t quite at the point where he can jump in headfirst, he is discussing the charity’s project where famous figures dive into an icy swimming pool for their mission.

The ex-track athlete opted to briefly immerse his feet in the very cold -6.2 degree Celsius water for a quick test.
unexpectedly, Shirvo found himself surprised when someone behind the camera snatched his microphone and pushed him into the frigid swimming pool, causing uproarious laughter from the studio audience.

Taken aback, Shirvo was thrust into an icy pool by a hidden producer who grabbed his microphone, resulting in a wave of chuckles from the studio crowd.
As he tried to get out of the icy water, Shirvo was pushed in again.
After successfully exiting the swimming pool, the TV host dashed off for a quick run around MCG to warm up while his co-hosts from Sunrise chuckled.
In my professional opinion, that action was truly unkind, I must admit. It left me wondering, who amongst us felt compelled to push poor Shirvo into the pool?
‘I haven’t seen him run that fast in a long time,’ Shirvo’s fill-in David Woiwod quipped.
A few weeks ago, fellow Sunrise host Natalie also took a cold plunge during the breakfast program.
In this interaction, a 57-year-old presenter and their co-host Shirvo engaged in conversation with Australian boxer Harry Garside, discussing the application of baths for muscular recuperation and the positive aspects associated with such practice.

Subsequently, Natalie donned a sleek black swimming suit while consenting to plunge into an icy bath alongside the athletic celebrity.
Prior to entering the water, Harry shared his thoughts, saying, “Ice baths are particularly beneficial for athletes. Moreover, I believe that practicing breath control can help maintain composure during turbulent times.
As a devoted follower of boxing, I can attest to its intense and unpredictable nature. Each bout feels like a whirlwind, an exhilarating rush that leaves me panting for more. After the fight, it’s the ice bath and similar recovery methods that help me regain my composure, often finding solace in a deep breath.
Shirvo then said: ‘Well jump in guys when you’re ready. Good luck.’
After stepping into the icy water, Natalie playfully remarked that it was so unpleasant, it seemed as though she was about to give birth.
She continued to breath loudly before admitting: ‘I hate this.’
