During Wednesday’s episode of The View, Joy Behar surprised viewers and a guest—married actor Anson Mount—by unexpectedly attempting to kiss him while they were on live television.
The 53-year-old actor from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was meeting the other panelists after coming offstage when someone kissed him.
Dominic West, who married photographer Darah Trang in 2018, initially spoke with Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines before turning to say hello to 83-year-old Joy Behar.
She hugged him, and he gave her a kiss on the cheek. Then, Behar playfully puckered her lips, and Mount responded by kissing her properly.
She wrapped her left arm around him and seemed to pull him closer for a deeper kiss.
The audience chuckled after Joy Behar playfully kissed him, and her co-host, Sunny Hostin, jokingly offered him a tissue to clean it off.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for The View, Mount, and Behar to get their reaction to the kiss.
After Hostin made a playful comment, suggesting Joy had been discussing the other person extensively that morning, Behar jokingly responded, ‘I may be old, but I’m still alive!’
‘That’s it, Joy, because I am,’ Mount said in response to Behar’s joke.
‘Are you okay?’ Goldberg asked Behar.
“I just need a quick fix,” she said. “The last time he visited, he brought me flowers for my birthday, and things haven’t felt right between us since.”
‘Well, I got married,’ he stated.
‘That’s what I mean!’ Behar replied.
Following the viral video of the kiss, Mount shared that his wife found the on-air moment with Behar very funny.
He told TV Insider he asked his wife to promise not to divorce him, and she found the request funny.
He believes the video went viral because people often assume busy parents with young children disappear from social media. He thinks viewers were simply surprised to see he was still active and around.
The actor said his last appearance on The View was 13 years ago.
I got her flowers for her birthday, and honestly, it seemed to really work! He was joking about it afterward, saying we’d just have to wait and see how she responds next time. I’m definitely hopeful!
Mount and his wife share two daughters: Clover, four, and Violet, one.
Though Mount and Trang laughed off the moment, not all viewers were entertained.
‘He’s married. She crossed the line,’ one wrote underneath a TikTok video showing the kiss.
‘He plays it off well but I think she crossed a line,’ someone else added.
‘What would the view think if a man did that to a woman,’ another questioned.
Anson Mount is most famous for his roles as Captain Christopher Pike in both Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Discovery.
