Shirley Ballas Smiles Through Stalker Drama at Strictly Tour
Shirley Ballas left Nottingham with a smile, during the Strictly Come Dancing tour – just hours following a court appearance by her stalker.
On Tuesday, Kyle Shaw, aged 37, stood before Liverpool Crown Court, charged with harassment of the Strictly Come Dancing judge, who is 64 years old. This alleged stalking took place from August 31, 2017, up until November 29, 2023, through sending her numerous online messages.
Ignoring her scheduled court appearance, Shirley exited her Nottingham hotel with a smile on her face before the upcoming segment of the tour.
She maintained a relaxed style, donning a combination of black and white athletic sneakers and matching leggings. To stay cozy, she also wore a cream double-breasted wool coat.
According to reports, Shaw’s behavior deeply concerned and upset Shirley so much that she could no longer carry on with her regular daily routines.
A few months ago, Shirley had to call the police due to a disturbing event where an individual is said to have approached her aggressively, snapped pictures of her home and vehicle. At this point, it remains unclear if there’s any connection between this occurrence and Shaw.
After the harrowing incident in July, Shirley asserted that the man’s mobile device and computer were seized by the police for further investigation of the allegations.
On the exclusive podcast by The Mirror, she shared this: “A specific individual has been following me closely, and currently, an investigation is ongoing regarding this matter.
As a die-hard admirer, let me tell you, my devices – my computer and phone – were seized. It turns out, this individual had taken photographs of my very home and was in possession of these images. Not only that, but he also seemed to have detailed knowledge of my car. Admittedly, there have been moments when I’ve felt a shiver of fear, knowing these facts.
In simpler terms, I interact with many individuals, most of whom are wonderful, but occasionally, there’s one who behaves strangely, acting as if they truly know me. However, they only know me through watching me on television or following me online. This unexpected familiarity is quite unsettling.
Normally, it’s George, my driver from the past five years, who exits the vehicle first and checks around before anything else.
I wouldn’t call it the most healthy choice, you understand? I prefer to live life freely, but these days it’s important to pay closer attention to our own wellbeing.
On Tuesday, Shaw, who is additionally facing charges for marijuana possession, made an appearance in court while donning a black jacket over a dress shirt and tie.
During the brief hearing, no appeals were made and Shaw merely confirmed his identity and acknowledged what was discussed.
The judge granted Shaw temporary release, but under the stipulation that he avoids going to London and refrains from communicating with Shirley or her companion.
The court has scheduled a preliminary hearing date for the 12th of January, upcoming year. This trial is anticipated to span over five consecutive days. However, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones postponed the proceedings for another hearing on the 25th of February.
Shirley has been head judge on the BBC show since 2017.
Her hardship occurred not long ago following the conviction of Gavin Plumb for his attempts to abduct the popular television personality, Holly Willoughby, who previously hosted This Morning.
Previously, Shirley shared that she has become significantly more cautious about her safety since Holly’s ordeal became known to the public.
She mentioned that she is quite cautious by nature. When she steps outside, she makes sure to avoid going alone. If it happens to be nighttime, she tends to feel a bit anxious.
As a lifestyle advisor, I always approach information from various sources, like social media, with a discerning eye, especially when it comes to the insights shared by individuals such as Holly. Her unique experiences have taught me to never underestimate the value of any advice or knowledge I encounter.
In the world today, you’ll find numerous extraordinary individuals. Yet, there are some peculiar ones too, who can be challenging to navigate around. This situation often requires us to stay extra cautious.
‘You’re upping your level of alarms. And (now) I always tell my mum: “I’m here, I’ve arrived”.
In most cases, I wouldn’t find it necessary, but since it has turned into a regular practice, let me express it this way: “It’s not usually my habit, yet given the circumstances, it seems we follow this custom. Whenever I can, I prefer to reassure myself by saying: ‘I am secure, I am in the right location, I am exactly where I belong.’
I’m grateful that the BBC has provided exceptional care for me, they’ve truly been remarkable.
In certain challenging situations, when a person was following me from the northern parts of England – I wasn’t alone as someone escorted me from the hotel to this location and frequently checked up on me to ensure my safety. Overall, I had a strong sense of security throughout this experience.
