Shirley Ballas, 64, Shares Her Intense Fitness Routine for Celebrity Bear Hunt

Shirlie Ballas, famous from Celebrity Bear Hunt, shared details about the rigorous workout routine she followed to get ready for the action-packed series.

Among the contestants on the Netflix show, the Strictly Come Dancing judge, who’s 64 years old, is the eldest participant. However, this veteran judge isn’t new to risky situations.

2019 saw Shirley coming perilously close to death as she climbed the 12,000 feet of Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, for Comic Relief. She slipped on the mountain slope.

For her preparation prior to embarking on the Celebrity Bear Hunt in May, she drew motivation from a massive hiking endeavor. Then, she departed for Costa Rica to shoot the film.

Shirley shared that she follows a demanding daily fitness routine: walking 10,000 steps by 7 am, working out at the gym, attending yoga sessions, cycling on her Peloton bicycle, and jogging on the treadmill.

Well, you know, I’ve reached the grand age of 64, but that doesn’t stop my passion for dance! I may no longer be a competitive dancer, but each and every day, I’m on my feet for 12 hours, passing on my love and skills to new students. It’s not just a job for me, it’s a way of life, an endless dance that never stops moving.

Before the show’s premiere on February 5th, Shirley mentioned that she had already worn in her new boots, similar to how she prepared for climbing Kilimanjaro. Instead of simply packing them away, she made sure to wear them repeatedly before the event.

Every day, I make it a point to hit the gym and complete my 10,000 steps by 7 a.m. To accomplish this, I wake up very early at home before heading off to work. I engage in yoga, ride the Peloton bike, and use the running machine at the gym as part of my morning routine.

At sixty-four years old, I must admit, it’s quite challenging. I no longer dance competitively as in days gone by, but I do spend every day on my feet, teaching dancing for a full twelve hours. Given this, I believe I have made my contribution and done the very best that I could.

She openly discussed her status as the eldest contestant, revealing the expected position she believes she’ll hold within the group and explaining her strategy for maintaining order among the team members.

She mentioned that as the oldest member on the team at 64 years old, she plans to take on a nurturing role, similar to a motherly figure.

I excel at active listening and am often the one to step in when a situation becomes tense. Rather than stepping back, I prefer to take action. I value fairness and abhor any form of bullying.

But despite no longer competing as a dancer, Shirley still has a very competitive side.

She remarked, “This morning my son advised me not to focus on competition.” I replied, “It’s challenging to advise a seasoned 64-year-old woman accustomed to competitiveness to abandon such a trait.

‘Even though we have got young and strong people there, that’s who I am.’

Shirley boldly admitted that she doesn’t shy away from tough situations, sharing her experiences such as conquering Mount Kilimanjaro and skydiving for the cause of men’s mental health.

I take on quite a few challenges, and although I may feel some internal anxiety, I always manage to hide it. You won’t see any evidence of fear from me.

In the thrilling game show “Celebrity Bear Hunt,” hosted by Holly Willoughby, a team of unexpected celebrities find themselves in the dense Central American wilderness, becoming the hunted by the formidable Bear Grylls.

Bear contends that deep within each of us lies a potential action hero, not just celebrities, but everyone. However, the true measure of one’s resilience will be revealed in the face of adversity.

As Bear puts them through their paces, those who fail to impress will face the dreaded Bear Hunt.

In this intense contest, they’ll be pursued relentlessly by “Bear,” who will attempt to catch them. If successful, their time on the program may come to an end.

Last year, when it was revealed that Shirley would be competing, an insider shared with the Daily Mirror: “Shirley is an excellent pick, and has maintained impressive fitness due to decades of ballroom dancing.

She’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate her resilience and dedication, offering Strictly viewers an entirely new perspective of her.

Celebrity Bear Hunt premieres on Netflix on February 5.
