Season 2 of Shifting Gears is back, starting with its winter episodes in 2026, and the Parker family is at the center of it all. Riley and Matt were arguing about decorating the house and making decisions together, all while also watching Carter‘s girlfriend’s pet while she was away. The whole situation hilariously reminded me of the show The White Lotus, and it was a surprisingly great connection!
Comparing the shows Shifting Gears and The White Lotus would reveal very little common ground, except for one specific moment. It happened when Georgia, a character I particularly like, expressed her disappointment with an apartment Riley had shown the kids, saying…
I just don’t think at this age I’m meant to live an uncomfortable life.
I immediately recognized the line and it brought to mind Parker Posey’s memorable character, Victoria Ratliff. Georgia said she intended to use her dog to get more views on TikTok, which felt very believable considering how many memes that one line from The White Lotus inspired.
Shifting Gears Just Added Another Sitcom Great To Date Matt After Eve Shocker, But I’m Suspicious
Honestly, what really got me about that moment was what it hinted at about Georgia’s character. I mean, could a little kid really have figured out how to watch The White Lotus? Maybe she just picked up a random quote from a meme and can’t stop repeating it – which is so funny to imagine! Either way, it was a totally unexpected and hilarious line, and I’m hoping to see more of that kind of quirky humor in Shifting Gears.
In the end, Riley decided to stay with her father because moving out was too costly. I’m glad Matt is letting their daughter pay rent, and they’re saving the money for a future house down payment. It does make me wonder how much she’s contributing each month to actually be able to afford a place of her own, but maybe we’ll find out more about that later.

New episodes of Shifting Gears are airing Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on ABC. I’m excited to see how Matt handles his recent split from Eve, and whether Riley will finally tell Gabe how she feels.
