Shifting Gears Is Bringing A King Of The Hill Star In For A Big Role That Has Me Scratching My Head

This fall, ABC is bringing back its comedy series Shifting Gears for a second season, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. The first season featured the established sitcom stars, and Season 2 is already adding some impressive guest appearances. Now, a familiar face from the animated show King of the Hill is joining the cast, but her role is a bit unexpected.

Pamela Adlon, the actress known for her work on shows like Better Things, Californication, Elsbeth, and King of the Hill, will appear as the mother of Gabriel in the new series Shifting Gears, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Adlon, 59, seems like a natural fit for the show, it’s amusing to note that Seann William Scott, who plays Gabriel, is only 49 – a surprisingly small age gap for a mother and son on screen!

I’m really excited about Shifting Gears, and I’m hoping they address that Adlon’s character had a child as a teenager. It would just make the age gap feel a little less strange. I get that the show doesn’t spell out everyone’s age, but honestly, the situation is getting pretty close to uncomfortable. Even so, I’m thrilled to see Pamela Adlon back on TV, age differences aside!

I’m really excited – apparently, Tracy Adlon is going to be in a new episode of the show on December 10th! It’s called “Nutcracker” and will be available to stream on Hulu the next day. From what I’ve read, the plot involves Gabe getting Riley to help Amelie try and impress his mom, and knowing this show, things are definitely going to get hilariously chaotic.

I’m really excited to see Jenna Elfman return as Eve this week! It sounds like she and Mike aren’t getting along, which is always interesting. Plus, Carter needs help with asking someone to prom – which is funny timing since it’s December! Prom feels like ages ago for me, but I guess kids these days need a lot of time to plan everything. I’m definitely curious to see how that plays out.

It’s been a significant year for Pamela Adlon, and it’s about more than just her role in the unfortunately cancelled show, Mid-Century Modern. She also returned to voice the beloved character Bobby Hill for the King of the Hill revival on Hulu, bringing him back to television after a fifteen-year absence.
