Carol Wright is facing criticism for what some see as veiled criticisms of her daughter-in-law, Michelle Keegan, following comments she made about women wearing bikinis that were considered poorly timed.
A 65-year-old woman is facing criticism online after saying that thong bikinis and the people who wear them are ‘gross and unattractive.’ She made these comments on her podcast, Wright At Home, which she co-hosts with her daughters, Jess and Natalya.
Jess, a former cast member of The Only Way Is Essex, and her sister have apologized after a video they posted – which listeners found offensive and disrespectful – was quickly taken down from their social media accounts. Their mother also agreed with their initial stance.
However, friends suggest the comments were a subtle jab at Michelle, 38, who runs her own Orfila Bee swimwear line and frequently posts bikini photos on Instagram.
According to a source, Carol is a classic overbearing mother-in-law. She’s extremely devoted to her sons and very possessive of them.
There’s a quiet tension between Carol and Michelle. Carol tries to make little, indirect jabs, but Michelle always notices and doesn’t forget them.
Carol’s son has gently reminded her in the past to be careful about what she says regarding his wife.
Mark is head over heels for Michelle and wants her to be happy above all else. He’s so protective of her that he’s even told his mother, Carol, to stop doing anything that might upset her.
Okay, so this is a bit of a social media moment! A clip from a recent discussion is circulating on TikTok, and people are really talking about it. Apparently, I shared that my husband, Will, isn’t a fan of thong bikinis, and Carol shared that her husband, Mark Sr., doesn’t find them attractive either. It’s sparked quite a reaction online, and let me tell you, people have opinions! It just goes to show, everyone has different preferences, and it’s okay to talk about them – even if it stirs up a little conversation!
Sources also indicate the comments came out at a particularly sensitive time, as Michelle and Mark were celebrating their daughter’s first birthday in March.
The timing couldn’t have been worse. Everyone was hoping to enjoy Palma’s first birthday, but this situation has completely overshadowed it.
‘Normally, Carol would post it all over her social media, but she’s lying low amid the backlash.’
Jess, Natalya, and Carol started their show, Wright At Home, last November. While the show itself has been gaining some attention, a clip featuring a bikini sparked a huge conversation on TikTok, even after the creators took it down from their Instagram page.
The conversation started with Jess expressing her dislike of thong swimwear on the beach, saying she found it unacceptable.
Natalya continued, saying it’s understandable if someone wants to wear revealing clothing, but if they’re going to be mindful and cover up in certain situations – like bending over or lying on a bed with a towel – they should really just wear a sarong instead.
Joining the conversation, Carol said: ‘I really do think this is not sexy for men to look at’.
The grandmother then shared a story about a vacation she took with her husband, recounting how he commented on the appearances of three women with different body types.
She recounted a walk with her father along the boardwalk, where they passed three girls wearing very revealing clothing. She said her father looked at them and commented that he didn’t find the display attractive.
Social media users circulated old photos of Jess wearing revealing bikinis, some of which were quite small and showed a lot of skin.
People criticizing her pointed out that Jess was frequently seen wearing similar bikinis on the TV show ‘Towie,’ especially during pool parties.
That’s classic hypocrisy – they criticize others for things they do themselves. It’s a clear case of double standards, honestly.
A specific photo came to mind: Jess at her 2021 bachelorette party, walking through an airport wearing a fringed skirt with very short shorts underneath.
People were frustrated by the idea of women not supporting each other, and one TikTok user specifically said they didn’t care what Will thought.
It’s upsetting that women are still criticized by other women for what they wear.
Honestly, I don’t dress to impress anyone’s husband, and I definitely don’t want him sexualizing me. And the villains in the story wearing skimpy bikinis has nothing to do with that.
