Sherri Shepherd promises more joy despite cancellation — and says she’ll keep an eye on Kym Whitley

Sherri Shepherd recently opened up about why her talk show, “Sherri,” was canceled after airing for four seasons.

The comedian addressed the news of the show’s cancellation in a lighthearted Instagram video on Tuesday, jokingly warning viewers not to be shocked – or even faint – because healthcare costs are high and many people can’t afford it.

I’m really touched by all the love and support everyone has shown me.

Honestly, the outpouring of gratitude from the artist was really touching. She made a point of thanking everyone – not just the big names, but also her online supporters, those who reached out personally, and even the everyday people who offered kind words while she was out and about, wig or no wig. It felt incredibly genuine and highlighted how much their support meant to her.

Shepherd described the show as being all about “joy” and stated that she and her team weren’t ready to let it end. Her announcement was met with a standing ovation from the audience. While she wasn’t sure what the future held, she promised to keep bringing happiness to viewers.

She added a pointed message for future contestants, saying, “Please, don’t try anything too wild on this show.”

My friend Kym Whitley joked that she’s bringing an empty suitcase to take souvenirs from the backstage dressing rooms. I decorated those rooms with items celebrating iconic female comedians like Lucille Ball, Joan Rivers, Marsha Warfield, and Whoopi Goldberg. Kym specifically said she wants all of Whoopi’s shoes! I’ve asked security to keep an eye on her, and I’m serious – I’ll report her if she tries to take anything.

“So I’m saying to all of my guests, don’t come here committing petty crimes.”

Whitley left a comment on the video saying she loved and admired the person who posted it, even though the message was difficult to share. She jokingly added that she was taking everything she could from the studio – including anything from the green room, coffee, drinks, snacks, pillows, and even any wigs she could find – and looked forward to their next project together.

She described herself as a fun, engaging presence – like a favorite aunt who makes you laugh, is interested in your life, and keeps you entertained for longer than you expected.
