Sheridan Smith’s “extraordinary” new ITV drama gets first look trailer – watch it here

Sheridan Smith’s upcoming real-life drama I Fought the Law has just released a first trailer.

This show centers around character Ann Ming’s crusade for fairness as she worked tirelessly to repeal the Double Jeopardy Law. Enacted in part in 2003, this law prohibited a person from being tried twice over the same crime, regardless of any newly discovered evidence.

Today, the trailer for “I Fought the Law” was unveiled on social media platforms. In this upcoming movie, Will Smith portrays Ming, a determined mother who embarks on a tireless pursuit of justice following the murder of her daughter, Julie Hogg, played by Victoria Wyant.

The scene begins as Ann pays a visit to Julie’s residence. At first, she fears that Julie’s daughter has disappeared. However, the situation takes a tragic turn when they discover Julie’s body hidden behind a bathroom door panel, causing great distress for Ann.

In the initial court case, the main suspect was found not guilty. This unexpected verdict prompted Ann and her spouse, Charlie (Daniel York Loh), to advocate for a modification of the 800-year-old Double Jeopardy Law, as the man later admitted to committing the murder.

According to Ann Ming’s book “For The Love of Julie”, the show “I Fought the Law” was created by writer Jamie Crichton, who is also known for his work on shows like “All Creatures Great and Small” and “Grantchester”. Alongside him, actors such as Enzo Cilenti, Aimée Kelly, and Rufus Jones are part of the cast.

In a public announcement, Ming commended the television version, expressing delight over the casting of Smith as her character, stating it was “marvelous.

Ming expressed great joy that Hera Pictures plans to share the narrative of my mission to repeal the Double Jeopardy Law, he stated.

Years after the wrongful acquittal of the person who murdered my daughter, they confessed to the crime. However, due to an 800-year-old law called Double Jeopardy, they could only be charged with perjury. I won’t let this legal technicality prevent me from seeking justice for Julie.

I Fought the Law will air on ITV1 and stream on ITVX.
