Sheridan Smith stuns co-star with “breathtaking” performance in new ITV true crime drama

In a heartfelt statement, Jack James Ryan, who stars alongside Sheridan Smith in “I Fought the Law”, commended Smith’s exceptional acting in the latest ITV true crime production.

Starting from the 1980s, the series focuses on Smith portraying Ann Ming, whose daughter Julie Hogg was tragically murdered. Fueled by anger and dissatisfaction over the lack of justice, she embarks on a mission to alter the Double Jeopardy Law in order to imprison William Dunlop for his crimes.

Previously known for his role as Jacob Hay on Coronation Street, Ryan now stars alongside Smith as William. In a chat with The Mirror, he expressed great admiration for his fellow actor, Ann.

He remarked, ‘I’ve often expressed my admiration for this actor, but when I found out I would be working with him (Sheridan), I was utterly astonished.’

I found it absolutely incredible. I’ve been a fan of her acting career from the start and have been constantly inspired by her work. Spending the last four months observing her on set and learning from her was an unparalleled experience, far superior to anything I could have learned at drama school.

He continued, stating that Smith’s performance is “absolutely breathtaking”.

As a lucky gamer, being immersed in this series felt like striking gold, for it boasted an incredible ensemble cast that made every scene a delight. It was a dream come true to be working alongside such talented individuals, a role I’d long aspired to play.

Additionally, he shared that this was his initial significant undertaking grounded in reality, which carried an element of intimidation.

He stated that it was clear to everyone, including Sheridan, that we all felt the weight of responsibility to handle this story with care, making sure it was both poignant and respectful towards those we have lost and those who continue their fight for justice.

It was challenging yet thrilling to contribute to an endeavor that seemed promising to make a significant, positive difference in people’s lives.
