As a long-time fan of Gavin & Stacey, I can barely contain my excitement! The rumors about Sheridan Smith reprising her role as Rudi Smith for the final episode have me on cloud nine. I remember watching Sheridan’s portrayal of Rudi back in the day and being captivated by her quirky charm.

On a recent day at the ITV drama Fight For The Truth‘s set, Sheridan Smith sported a striking new look with a cropped platinum-blond wig that made her barely resemble herself.

As a steadfast advocate, I find myself at the heart of a captivating narrative. My relentless pursuit for justice after my daughter’s tragic demise has left its mark in the annals of law. Now, it seems that this extraordinary story is being brought to life on ITV, with Sheridan cast in the leading role.

In the recently commenced production set in Hartlepool, County Durham, the actress, aged 42, is set to play the characters of both a mother and a nurse named Ann Ming on the show.

She donned a beige trench coat over a blue gingham nurse’s uniform, paired with tights and slip-on footwear.

Sheridan looked tense while filming the drama and was joined on set by several male actors.

As a passionate advocate for justice, I spent fifteen long years tirelessly campaigning to reform the ancient Double Jeopardy Law. This fight was sparked by the heart-wrenching murder of my beloved daughter, Julie Hogg, in Billingham, County Durham, back in 1989. My quest stems from a deep desire to ensure that no family should ever endure the pain and injustice we experienced.

In my dedication, I played a role in ensuring that William ‘Billy’ Dunlop, a man imprisoned for another offense, ultimately confessed to the murder for which he was subsequently convicted.

The individual who took her life choked and subsequently disfigured Julie, followed by concealing her corpse beneath the bathtub within her own home.

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that at an advanced age, none other than the legendary Ann is set to consult throughout the entire creative journey! In this captivating drama, she’ll be brought to life on screen by the talented Smith.

She mentioned that her daughter’s true murderer had been incorrectly found not guilty in court, and years afterward admitted to the crime. However, because of a 800-year-old law known as Double Jeopardy, he could only be charged with perjury for lying about the murder during his initial trial.

I made up my mind not to let this obstacle hinder my pursuit of justice for Julie. I’m absolutely thrilled that Sheridan Smith will portray me in the production.

‘Having such an iconic and talented actress portray me is truly wonderful.’

It seems that Sheridan is quite occupied, given her latest assignment at ITV and allegedly agreeing to reappear in the final episode of Gavin & Stacey.

For the upcoming Christmas special, it’s reported that the actress, aged 42, will be part of the esteemed cast, portraying James’ television sibling named Rudi Smith. This role is significant as it signifies the end of the cherished sitcom series.

Although recent news stated that Sheridan wouldn’t participate, it appears that informal talks with the star have already transpired, according to sources within the BBC – as reported by The Mirror.

Earlier this month, I was privy to some insider information from reliable sources about the acclaimed actress. They shared that there haven’t been any discussions regarding her potential return to the cherished BBC sitcom we all adore. Just last month, James, aged 45, and co-writer Ruth Jones, aged 57, officially announced that this beloved series would conclude with a special episode airing on Christmas Day.

It appears that things may have shifted, and there could be prospects for an epic gathering of the books, which is quite exciting.

As an overly-eager Gavin & Stacey fan, I can exclusively share that the final script for our beloved show brings back every main character, even Smithy’s sister Rudi! Yet, it’s important to note that no contracts have been sealed, and active discussions are underway, particularly since the filming date remains undecided.

However, every effort is being made to ensure that the entire acting troupe will be present. In the upcoming weeks, the production crew aims to finalize each actor’s schedule.

Sheridan and James continue to have a good relationship; they just ran into each other at the Variety Club Awards, and they hit it off splendidly. It’s hoped that she can join in the future.

In last year’s Christmas Special, my beloved character, Sheridan, wasn’t present because she wasn’t integral to the narrative then. However, this time around, things are distinctly different for her in the story.

TopMob has contacted both Sheridan and BBC’s representatives for a comment.

Sheridan portrayed the character of Ruth ‘Rudi’ Smith, famed for her stormy romantic entanglement with Smithy (James’s role), as well as their unexpected rhymes. This performance earned her a devoted following among fans.

From 2007 to 2009, the actress was romantically involved with James for a span of two years. It’s rumored that they still maintain a friendly relationship.

At the conclusion of April, they both went to The Variety Club’s Showbusiness Awards ceremony. James received an award for Outstanding Global Achievements in Broadcasting, Acting, and Comedy.

On various social platforms, James and Ruth signaled the comeback of the sitcom by sharing a picture of the scriptwriters displaying a manuscript labelled “Gavin and Stacey: The Last Episode,” which was posted recently.

Audience members can eventually learn if Smithy and Nessa become a couple, and maybe uncover the details about the infamous fishing excursion they’ve been curious about.

Contrary to Sheridan, it is the main cast who have been reached out to, so that their schedules can be confirmed for the filming of the last episode, scheduled to broadcast on Christmas Day on BBC1.
