Sheinelle Jones named co-host for the fourth hour of ‘Today’

Sheinelle Jones will be joining Jenna Bush Hager as a co-host on the fourth hour of NBC’s “Today” show, the network announced Tuesday.

Starting January 12th, the third hour of NBC News’ “Today” show, which airs daily at 10 a.m., will be called “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.” Jenna Hager has been leading the show with various guest hosts since Hoda Kotb’s departure in January.

Jones, 47, is leaving her role on the third hour of the program, which will still be hosted by Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer.

Hoda Kotb, originally from Kansas, took a leave of absence from “Today” earlier this year after the passing of her husband, Uche Ojay, who battled a fast-moving type of brain cancer called glioblastoma. She rejoined the program in September.

In 2019, she joined the fourth hour of ‘Today’ as a co-host and quickly became known for her book recommendations, which she shared in a monthly segment. She’s since become a highly influential voice in the publishing world.

Sheinelle Jones has been a part of the “Today” show since 2014. Before joining “Today,” she spent nine years as a morning news anchor at a Fox station in Philadelphia. She initially co-anchored the Saturday edition of the show and later became a co-host of the third hour in 2019. Jones is also a mother of three.

The fourth hour of NBC’s “Today” show is a relaxed, daytime program featuring advice segments and interviews with celebrities. It premiered in 2007 with Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, and Hoda Kotb as the original hosts.

The show became very popular with a dedicated fanbase when Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford hosted together, and it became known for its relaxed, wine-loving atmosphere. After Gifford left in 2019, Jenna Hager Bush took her place.
