Katie Holmes posted an old childhood picture online while celebrating her 47th birthday on Thursday.

The former star of Dawson’s Creek posted a cute childhood photo on Instagram, showing a young version of herself looking adorably grumpy in a portrait.

In an old photo, she’s wearing a shoulder-length bob haircut with straight-across bangs. She has on a patterned turtleneck sweater under a pair of overalls that feature a heart design.

She shared a photo and thanked her family and friends for all the lovely birthday messages she received.

Honestly, looking back on the last year fills me with so much gratitude! It’s been a whirlwind of creativity, pure joy, and a whole lot of love. I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s been a part of it all ❤️.

Oh my gosh, did you know that the actress – the one who was almost in that amazing Christmas movie we all adore – had a childhood that was practically a carbon copy of her daughter, Suri? It’s so surreal! Suri is 19 now, and seeing pictures of them both as little girls… it’s like looking in a mirror! They were identical!

Holmes shares Suri, her only child, with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, 63.

Despite generally keeping their lives private, the mother and daughter are very close, especially given the daughter’s strained relationship with her father.

The teenager is currently in her sophomore year of college at Carnegie Mellon University. 

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were married for six years before Holmes filed for divorce in 2012. She was worried about their daughter and wanted to protect her from Cruise’s involvement with the Church of Scientology, which she considered controversial.

Katie Holmes was granted primary custody of their daughter, and Tom Cruise provided child support until she reached the age of 18.

Despite a continuing rift with his daughter, he supposedly offered to cover the cost of her college education.

Holmes recently shared her feelings about becoming an empty nester when her daughter, Suri, left for college in August 2024.

“I’m so proud of my daughter,” Holmes shared with Town & Country. “While I’ll definitely miss having her close by, I’m truly happy for her.”

She reminisced about being that age, a time full of new experiences. ‘It was a wonderful time to discover who you are,’ she said, ‘and thinking about it still brings me joy.’

Even though Tom Cruise and his daughter Suri are no longer close, he continues to cover her $65,000 annual school tuition, plus all her healthcare and insurance costs.

Even though their relationship was difficult, Suri Cruise still listed her father’s last name when she signed up for the cast list of her high school’s musical, ‘The Addams Family,’ according to Yahoo.

For her high school graduation, she chose to go by Suri Noelle instead of her full name.

According to a source who spoke with DailyMail.com in June 2024, Suri is a bright and increasingly mature young woman. She’s surrounded by a tight-knit group of friends and is very aware of her background.
