Shawn Mendes Sparks Romantic Rumors After Addressing His Sexuality and Dating YouTube Star
It was spotted that Shawn Mendes was walking out with Maro, a popular Portuguese singer and YouTube personality whose birth name is Mariana Brito da Cruz Forjaz Secca.
The duo were seen staying close as they picked up a coffee together in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old performer exposed his hairy torso beneath a partially opened black shirt, which he paired with a long coat that fell to his knees.
Previously dating Camila Cabello, Shawn was seen engaged in a heartfelt chat with Caro (age 30), both of them carrying their steaming drinks during their coffee break.
Six months ago, I shared some personal insights regarding my identity during one of my Colorado tour stops, amidst persistent speculation. This recent observation aligns with that period in my life.

Shawn looked quite dashing, sporting a blue denim outfit with a black coat over it, and a touch of glamour from the golden necklace he wore around his neck.
Maro chose a relaxed style, combining loose-fitting jeans with a white button-up shirt, tucked underneath a cozy blue sweater, and accessorized it with a bright yellow handbag.
In October 2024, during the For Friends and Family Tour in Colorado, Shawn opened up to the audience about the genuine aspects of his romantic life.
The singer said he was trying to be ‘really brave,’ noting that he is still ‘figuring it out.’
‘There’s this thing about my sexuality and people have been talking about it so long,’ Shawn said.
He pointed out that labeling sexuality as ‘somewhat absurd’ is challenging due to its intricate nature and complexity. It’s difficult to categorize it neatly, as sexuality is such a deeply profound aspect of human identity.
I’m still discovering the true aspects of my life and my sexuality, just like many others.
It has consistently felt as if I was invading a deeply personal matter of mine. A journey of self-discovery, one where I’m still uncovering aspects that remain undiscovered to this day.

In this world, where opinions abound regarding such matters, I find myself feeling quite apprehensive. Yet, I’m striving to be courageous, to embrace my humanity, and let feelings flow freely. For the moment, that’s all I wish to express on this topic.
At the tender age of fifteen, I embarked on my journey. To be honest, my early start meant I missed out on some typical experiences of a fifteen-year-old and the self-discovery that often comes with that age, as Shawn explained.
Shawn made the remarks right before he sand his song The Mountain, which alludes to sexuality.
The lyrics go: ‘Feel free to argue that I’m still too green/Or claim I’ve seen it all and grown too old/Regardless of whether you believe I prefer women or men, it’s all the same to me.’
He expressed that composing the song was significant to him, as it seemed like an opportunity to express his feelings in a manner that resonated deeply with him.
I suppose I’m expressing myself openly at the moment, as I yearn for a sense of closeness with all of you and simply wish to remain authentic.
2018 saw Shawn expressing to Rolling Stone that initially, such rumors touched a nerve with him.
He remarked, “I’m grateful I’m not openly gay, as you all appear so fortunate, given my fear of revealing that side of myself.
* It can be lethal, and it’s incredibly delicate. Do you enjoy the music? Do you appreciate me? Does it matter if I’m gay?
This version maintains the original structure of the sentences while using more natural and easy-to-read language. The phrase “That’s something” has been replaced with “It can be lethal,” to make it clearer that the topic is potentially dangerous or harmful. The phrase “Do you like the songs? Do you like me?” has been rephrased as two separate questions, making it easier to understand the speaker’s intent. Finally, the original sentence “Who cares if I’m gay?” has been slightly modified to make it clearer that the speaker is asking if anyone cares about their sexual orientation.
Additionally, he mentioned experiencing societal expectations that required him to be seen with females, as a means to demonstrate that he was not homosexual.
Deep within me, there’s an urge to be seen with someone female in public, seemingly to validate my masculinity and disprove any rumors about my sexual orientation. Yet, rationally, I recognize this is not a negative aspect of myself. Regrettably, a part of me still harbors these doubts, which I deeply despise.
In 2019, Shawn said whispers about his sexuality were ‘hurtful’ in an interview with The Guardian.
Back in 2020, I just had to tune into the Dax Shepard podcast, because guess who was there? None other than my beloved idol! And you know what he did? He addressed those persistent whispers about his personal life that have been following him for so long. He spoke up, and it felt like a breath of fresh air, right in my heart as an ardent fan.
He confided that it was incredibly difficult for him due to the fact that some of his most intimate friends were hiding their homosexuality.

I experienced intense frustration towards those individuals. It’s a complex matter, though. You might find yourself saying, ‘I’m straight, but it wouldn’t be an issue if I were gay — yet, being gay is perfectly acceptable, but I’m not.’ However, you’re unsure of how to navigate the situation.
Since I was 15 years old, people have been labeling me as gay, which I am not. I’ve often found myself questioning, “What do they mean by that?” I struggled with the way my voice sounded and wondered, “How should I sit?” I always seem to cross my legs first, adopting a feminine sitting position, and I’ve had difficulties dealing with that.
In 2016, he openly refuted rumors about his sexuality in a Snapchat post addressed to his followers, asking them instead to focus on his professional endeavors.
He mentioned, “I don’t often point out issues, but while browsing through the comments on YouTube, where some of my interviews are posted, I observed that many viewers perceived me as giving off a ‘gay vibe’,” he shared.
To begin with, let me clarify that my sexual orientation is heterosexual. However, it’s crucial to emphasize that it doesn’t matter whether I am or am not gay. What truly matters is the music, and that should be our main focus.
Despite constant rumors and speculation regarding his sexuality, Shawn has only publicly acknowledged relationships with women, including fellow artist Camila.
Lately, Sabrina Carpenter has been making news with her track “Taste,” which some believe is a sharp-witted tune allegedly directed towards Shawn and Camila.
In 2023, for a short while, Sabrina was romantically connected to Shawn, as he had brief periods of break-up from his prolonged on-again, off-again romance with Camila.
Shawn and Camila rekindled their relationship following the speculation about him dating Sabrina, but they’ve split up once more since then.

Shawn and Camila made their relationship official during the summer of 2019, but they split up in 2021. However, they got back together for a short while last year before calling it quits again after just six weeks.
This summer, Shawn unveiled his tune titled “Why, Why, Why,” which was inspired by an unexpected pregnancy scare that left him feeling deeply affected – however, he chose not to disclose the identity of the person involved in the situation.
In the chorus of his song, I express, “I believed I was on the verge of becoming a father, and it left me utterly shaken, as I’m just a young man.” In the bridge, I continue to confess, “Occasionally, I find myself yearning for my mother.
Previously in the track, he admits to lingering remorse concerning the conclusion of a relationship with an unnamed lady.
Perspiring under the blankets, trembling on the mattress, images of her bare form constantly in my thoughts, yet I walked away and made a decision for myself. Why, oh why, oh why? Calm my thoughts,” he sings.
In the past, I found myself at the center of speculations surrounding a romantic connection with my chiropractor, Dr. Jocelyne Miranda, who happens to be 52 years old.
Shawn was also linked to Big Brother UK’s Charlie Travers in 2023.
