Losing someone close to us is an experience that transcends age, profession, or fame, and it’s heartening to see two artists of different generations bond over shared feelings of loss and love.

On October 16, a One Direction band member tragically passed away following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the age of 31.

Initially, the Canadian artist chose to perform a new, unpublished song titled Heart of Gold, which he had previously performed live on stage.
On a Friday, it was Geoff, Payne’s dad, who flew into Buenos Aires to escort his son’s remains back to England.
Upon reaching the hotel where his son, the departed singer, had passed away, the distraught father encountered a wave of sorrowful emotions from the multitude of admirers who had assembled to pay their respects.
The father who had lost his child paused at the temporary tribute site, then stooped to gather a picture of Liam before expressing gratitude to all those present for their kindness.
Following the passing of the BMI Pop Awards winner, his loved ones expressed deep sadness, stating they were devastated by their grief.
The family penned, ‘Liam’s loving, humorous, and courageous spirit will stay with us forever, deeply engraved in our memories.’
At this difficult moment, we’re doing our utmost to help one another within our family. We kindly request understanding and allow us some solitude and personal space in order to cope with this challenging situation.
Investigators in Buenos Aires are still looking into the tragedy.
Payne’s hotel room appeared disordered, allegedly containing traces of drugs and empty containers of alcohol, along with damaged items and furniture.
A post-mortem examination confirmed the artist’s death was due to a fall; however, the results of the toxicology test are still pending.
Payne is mourned by his parents, two siblings, and his seven-year-old son Bear, who he co-parented with former partner Cheryl Tweedy.
