Shaun White reveals the extremes he went to for elaborate surprise proposal to Nina Dobrev

As a dedicated follower of heartwarming love stories, I must say, Shaun White’s proposal to Nina Dobrev is nothing short of extraordinary. The level of creativity and planning that went into this surprise is truly impressive. I mean, who would think of sending a fake Vogue dinner invitation just to pull off the ultimate surprise?

On Wednesday, October 30, it was announced that Shaun White and Nina Dobrev are planning to get married.

However, prior to the Olympic snowboarding champion executing a once-in-a-lifetime proposal filled with unexpected twists, secretiveness, and an abundance of imagination.

Aware that his partner is usually not caught off guard, yet appreciates unexpected moments, White found it challenging to conceal his scheme since his past attempts had failed.

To come up with an original idea that could avoid inadvertently hindering his upcoming proposal, the X Games champion asked his publicist to send an invitation to Dobrev for a private dinner with Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of CFDA/Vogue, as reported by Elise Taylor from Vogue.

He arranged the fake dinner to be at The Golden Swan in New York City so that he could pop the question under an arch of white roses that also covered much of the floor in that area of the restaurant.

Dobrev, 35, ended up accepting the fake invitation without questioning its validity whatsoever.

The actress remarked, as she remembered the details of the invitation, “He really made it seem genuine.” She chuckled heartily as she described the visual aspects of the invitation.

Arriving slightly behind schedule following a styling appointment with White, the actress from XXX: Return of Xander Cage felt a touch apprehensive upon her arrival, given that Vogue events are known to begin promptly.

As I found myself ushered into the exclusive chamber of the West Village eatery, I couldn’t help but notice that every individual within was White and accompanied by a skilled photographer. The intricate floral arrangements, gracefully positioned across the room, seemed to echo my heartbeat as they danced in rhythm with the ambiance.

With the five carat diamond engagement ring that he had hidden in various spots at his home now in his pocket and dressed in Ralph Lauren, White got on to one knee under the arch and proposed with his lady decked out in an all-black Chanel ensemble. 

Originating from Sofia, Bulgaria but raised in Toronto, Canada, she admitted that she was taken aback and momentarily stunned, her eyes fixed on him. Following this, she uttered a firm ‘No.’ and then exclaimed it repeatedly with enthusiasm: ‘No, no, no!’

After a brief lapse in memory following her fainting spell, she recalls him saying words that seemed perfectly fitting.

Following her affirmative response, companions dropped by to share caviar and champagne with them, and the festivities continued till 1 A.M.

It didn’t take long before the snowboarder and skateboarding champion announced her decision, when posting a few photos from the emotional evening.

In a post on her Instagram, the woman from San Diego, California confirmed the news by saying ‘Yes’, as her boyfriend is now her fiancé. She expressed this change with the caption: ‘Goodbye boyfriend, welcome fiancé.’

Dobrev and White initially crossed paths during a quick interaction at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, however, it was only in the year 2019 that they had their official introduction.

As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but feel my heart race when they started dating, and it wasn’t long before they made their relationship public on Instagram with a series of pictures showcasing Dobrev giving White a quarantine makeover for her hair!

So far, there hasn’t been an official word on when and where they plan to share their nuptials.
