Shaun the Sheep is back! Sky’s new “monstrously fun” movie is coming in 2026

Fans of Shaun the Sheep can look forward to a delightful surprise, as it’s been revealed that a fresh movie is set to premiere next year. Here’s what we currently know about this upcoming film.

The animated movie titled “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom” is advertised as an exciting and entertaining adventure featuring Shaun the Sheep, who made his first appearance in the Wallace & Gromit episode “A Close Shave” thirty years back, and is now being praised for its fun-filled monster-themed storyline.

The film, serving as the third appearance of this character, is written by Mark Burton, who was behind the successful “Wallace & Gromit” production last year, specifically “Vengeance Most Fowl” and “Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas,” under the direction of Giles Pilbrow.

The upcoming films “Flight Prior to Christmas” by Steve Cox and “Matthew Walker’s Lloyd of the Flies” feature direction from these skilled filmmakers. Additionally, renowned animator Nick Park, known for creating “Wallace & Gromit,” is serving as a studio executive producer on these projects.

As suggested in the summary, the film focuses on the inhabitants of Mossy Bottom Farm as they get excited for Halloween. However, their joy is disrupted when the accident-prone farmer accidentally ruins the flock’s pumpkin field.

When Shaun transforms into a Mad Scientist to tackle the issue, events soon escalate beyond control, setting the stage for a thrilling and entertaining family-friendly escapade. With The Farmer gone and a ferocious creature prowling Mossingham’s woods, all pieces are in place for an unforgettable adventure.

In an excited announcement about the upcoming movie, the executive producer and head of originals at Sky Cinema, Andrew Orr, shared: “With Shaun being a well-known figure, it’s a significant milestone for us to have him and his team join our 2026 lineup of original films at Sky.

Working alongside Aardman Animations during this thrilling period for their studio, where we’re creating a movie that’s sure to delight fans from young to old, promises laughter, chills, and the introduction of some truly captivating new personalities.

It’s worth noting that Sky is teaming up with studio Aardman for this upcoming film. They have worked together in the past, such as on projects like “Morph” from 2016 and “Make Your Own Movies with Merlin”.

According to Aardman’s head creative director Sarah Cox, “Shaun the Sheep is a universally adored figure, cherished by audiences from various age groups across the globe.

In our latest animated film, we offer a fun-filled, slightly scary Halloween journey filled with laughter. You’ll encounter shattered pumpkins, mischievous science experiments, and an unruly furry creature running amok in Mossy Bottom. But don’t worry, the Flock ensures the comedy remains delightful throughout.

At the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, the movie is set to debut globally for distribution, with Studiocanal serving as our international partner excluding the United Kingdom.

Anna Marsh, CEO at Studiocanal, along with EVP global production Ron Halpern, shared their excitement: “We’re incredibly proud to have transformed Shaun the Sheep and his flock into movie stars. This time around, in our third film within the franchise, we’ve added a delightful Halloween twist, offering chills, spills, unexpected moments, a dash of science, as well as familiar and fresh characters.

As a gamer excitedly counting down the days, I can hardly contain my enthusiasm for unveiling even more of this long-awaited gaming experience in the upcoming months! It’s truly a joy to be collaborating once again with Aardman, welcoming Shaun back into our world. Plus, partnering with Sky in the UK means we share the same zeal and aspirations – to bring Shaun (and his pals) to as many players as possible, capitalizing on his timeless charm and ensuring he’s celebrated in his home territory!

Regarding the launch date, it’s been announced that the movie will hit the big screen in 2026, simultaneously being available on Sky Cinema. However, the exact release date is still undisclosed.

Since his initial appearance in 1995, Shaun the Sheep has branched out into various projects, including a separate TV series, the movies “Shaun the Sheep Movie” (2015) and its sequel “Farmageddon” (2019), as well as short films, video games, and even a stage performance.

Last year saw the release of “Wallace & Gromit: The Wrathful Poultry,” a movie that garnered a flawless rating on Rotten Tomatoes and clinched the BAFTA award for the category of Best Animated Feature.

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom will be released in cinemas and on Sky Cinema in 2026.
