Sharon Horgan joins Amanda Knox true-crime series

As a seasoned gamer of true crime narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement for Sharon Horgan‘s upcoming role in Hulu’s “Amanda.” Having binged through countless documentaries and movies on the Amanda Knox case, I feel like I’ve lived with this enigma for years.

Sharon Horgan has been confirmed for a new limited series based on the story of Amanda Knox.

According to Deadline, the actor and co-creator of “Catastrophe” and “Bad Sisters” has been cast as a regular in Hulu’s “Amanda,” portraying Knox’s mother Edda Mellas.

In this revised version, the character Grace Van Patten takes on the role of Knox previously played by Margaret Qualley in the series based on true events. This series will recount the narrative of how an exchange student was falsely accused and jailed for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, detailing the arduous journey towards regaining her freedom.

The Amanda Knox case has been presented on television in various ways over the years: For instance, a film titled “Amanda Knox: Murder Trial in Italy” was released in 2011 with Hayden Panettiere from “Scream” playing the lead role. Additionally, documentaries by BBC Three and Netflix were aired in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

The 2021 film “Stillwater,” starring Matt Damon, heavily drew inspiration from the true events surrounding the Knox ordeal, an admission made publicly by the actor himself.

In her own words, Knox criticized the movie, saying, “They’re exploiting my name for marketing purposes, which will have a direct effect on me.

(The movie creators) developed a narrative that deviated significantly from the foundation of my story, instead choosing to delve deeply into the sensationalized portrayal of my story as presented by the prosecution. This version depicted me, either directly or indirectly, as having played a role in the demise of my roommate. However, I want to clarify that this was not true; I had no such involvement with the death of my roommate, who they claimed I had a sexual liaison and connection with.

Currently, it has been announced that the television series “Motherland,” hosted by Horgan, has concluded. However, there is a possibility of a separate spin-off focusing on Amanda instead of a fourth season.
