Shannen Doherty is honored on first anniversary of her death by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rose McGowan

Friends of Shannen Doherty reminisced about the actress on the one-year anniversary of her passing, sharing heartwarming memories on Sunday.

This weekend signifies the first anniversary since the actress from Beverly Hills 90210 passed away at the age of 53, following a prolonged fight against breast cancer.

Exactly one year ago, you were required to travel by air, but we on this tangible plane of existence remember and cherish you every day with love and appreciation, as expressed by Doherty’s Charmed ‘sister’ Rose McGowan on Instagram.

She posted several pictures of her deceased friend on various platforms, among them a snapshot on her Instagram Story that showcased a bold-looking Doherty in an all-black attire, holding a cigarette between her lips.

‘You are missed,’ the Black Dahlia star wrote on the picture, adding the hashtag #shannendoherty. 

During a posthumous interview on Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty in August 2024, the late Jawbreaker star confessed that one of her deepest regrets was not developing a closer relationship with Shannen Doherty sooner in their lives.

McGowan expressed that if he had any regrets, it would be that he got to know his friend earlier.

‘I don’t know how it would have happened, but I wish we could have.’

McGowan said the media often tried to pit the two against each other, but neither took the bait.

The Sound actress called her pal, ‘the bravest, bravest champion I’ve known.’ 

McGowan compiled a video featuring a photo of Combs and Doherty embracing, captioned with the message, “We’ll always love you, Shannen @thehmd. You’re our forever best friend.” (This version retains the original sentiment but uses simpler language for clarity.)

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is now 48 years old, recently posted a touching video reminiscing on past moments, backed by the song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa (featuring Charlie Puth).

Actor from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who shared a connection with Doherty on the CW set, posted a broken heart symbol as an expression of her sadness.

As a devoted friend for three decades, I struggle to find the perfect words to encapsulate our friendship’s essence following your passing. This sentiment I express on social media a few days since your departure.

‘I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love.’ 

Gellar’s fans also shared their memories of Doherty.

‘One fan remembered that we had lost an exceptional individual. She was always patient and caring towards people, including her fans. This is something I personally experienced when she spent 30 minutes with me at the autograph booth, consoling me over the loss of my mother,’ recalled a fan.

‘Cant believe it’s been a year. Feels like we lost her still recently… ‘ wrote another.
