As a long-time CS:GO enthusiast with countless hours spent watching and analyzing matches, I can hardly contain my excitement for the Shanghai Major 2024! The prospect of witnessing the best teams from around the globe battling it out in Asia, the final major tournament of the year, is simply thrilling.
The final event of the season
2024’s Shanghai Major, the first Major tournament for Counter-Strike in Asia, will serve as the culminating event of the year. Often, a Major acting as the final competition before the season’s end provides an ideal conclusion to the yearly competition. Here, you’ll find essential information about the Shanghai Major, including format, participating teams, and more.
The Shanghai Major Format
The Shanghai Major has three stages to the tournament. It all starts on November 30 with the Opening Stage Swiss format. The opening stage has sixteen teams in participation.
In simpler terms, all the knockout and progression rounds in the tournament are decided over three matches. All other games are just a single match. The top eight teams from the initial round will move on to the elimination stage. Regrettably, for the bottom eight teams, this means their Shanghai Major journey comes to an end.
In this stage, the leading eight teams advance to the knockout rounds, which follow a single-elimination structure. The victor of these playoffs will be recognized as the world’s top team.
Where can I watch Broadcast?

For those who speak English, the Shanghai Major tournament will be streamed live on Twitch. Additionally, there will be regional language broadcasts available as well. At present, specific details regarding the Shanghai Major’s broadcast channels are scarce. As more information becomes accessible, we will make sure to provide updates in this chat.
Which teams will attend the Major?
Twenty-four teams will compete in the regional qualifying rounds for the Shanghai Major, a significant tournament. To secure a place, they must first excel in the Ranking events held across various regions. This involves eight teams advancing to the Elimination phase and sixteen teams starting from the opening round of competition.
In the knockout phase, every team participating hails from the European Regional Major Ranking (RMR) event. For the initial stages of this tournament, the thirty-two teams are drawn from diverse regions, and here’s how they’re divided:
- Seven from Americas RMR
- Six from European RMR
- Three from Asia Pacific RMR
This year’s Shanghai Major serves as the concluding Major of the season and marks the end of the tournament schedule before the upcoming holiday season. Previously, the BLAST World Final was the customary closing event, but this year, that distinction goes to the Shanghai Major.
