Shakira proved she’s still a major draw this weekend with a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. An estimated two million people attended, silencing any questions about her popularity.
If you thought your beach trip was busy, you haven’t seen anything yet! (Unless you were at the Shakira concert, of course.) That concert, starting at 11 p.m. local time, was predicted to bring around $155 million to the city, according to the Associated Press and Rio City Hall.
This will be the third year in a row that concerts have been held at this venue. While Madonna performed in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025, organizers anticipate Shakira’s 2026 concert will attract the largest crowd yet.
Shakira’s free concert in Rio brings two million people to the beach
The event had a lively atmosphere, built around the main performer’s concert. Vendors were selling everything from food and drinks like water and beer, to practical items like deodorant and toilet paper. The famous singer performed popular songs including “Hips Don’t Lie” and “La Tortura.”
If you weren’t able to catch the kickoff show, no problem! Shakira’s tour is really starting in mid-June out in California. She’ll be performing all the way through late July, and then she’s heading to Madrid in September for an amazing 11-night residency. I’m already trying to figure out how I’m going to get tickets!
