Shailene Woodley opens up about her sex life and why she thinks watching porn is 'like having McDonalds'

As an ardent fan of Shailene Woodley, I find her insights on intimacy, sex education, and the impact of pornography on our society both enlightening and refreshing. Her personal experiences, especially with her past relationships, have shaped her unique perspective on these topics.

Shailene Woodley has been candid about her personal relationships, the importance of genuine connection, and her comparison of watching pornography to eating fast food.

In a conversation on the SHE MD podcast, Woodley, aged 32, shared a meaningful relationship that led her to gain self-understanding during their personal interactions with one another.

Shailene explained that the relationship happened during her time when she was exploring herself and my physical being, likening it to a dance and an interchange of energy.

She then blasted pornography for it’s portrayal of intimacy, comparing it grabbing McDonald’s.

The actress, who will portray Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic, shared that she’s always been quite open about her sexuality and was fortunate to have found a partner who enjoyed dancing with her during her self-discovery years.

‘I refer to it as a dance since that’s what it essentially is – an exchange of energy. The pace can vary greatly; at times it’s swift like a fast-paced tango, while other times it’s slow and smooth like a groove. At times it’s lively with loud sounds, and sometimes it’s quiet and gentle.’

She mentioned, ‘Someone guided me towards self-discovery as we shared a sense of ease with each other.’ I believe I reciprocated by helping him explore himself in a similar manner.

She went on to express, “If only I could contribute to sex education, not as an individual, but by reviewing the current curriculum and suggesting improvements such as, ‘What adjustments can we make to improve this?’

Shailene then took issue with how sex is portrayed, calling it ‘fabricated’ and performative.

She stated, ‘In this nation, the portrayal of sexuality appears to be highly contrived.’ Instead, what’s presented often feels more like a staged act, rather than genuine emotional openness, vulnerability, and bonding.

Afterward, she likened porn to junk food, implying that it merely touches on the full potential of sexual experiences.

She stated, “If individuals understood the full potential of intimacy, they might view pornography and remark, ‘This is like junk food,’ reflecting its lack of genuine satisfaction.” She continued, “Pleasure plays a significant role, yet we often miss out on it due to our limited understanding of what can truly be achieved.

‘And that’s my big beef with porn is I’m like, “You’re selling everybody McDonald” when you could have like, ‘Whoa.”‘

Shailene was last in a serious relationship with NFL star Aaron Rodgers.

In 2020, they started a romantic relationship, got engaged, but ended up parting ways permanently about two years back.

She previously dated Ben Volavola from 2017 to 2020.

In 2015, it was noticed that the actress had spent time with the musician Nahko Bear, who is part of the group Nahko and Medicine for the People. Previously, there were rumors connecting them romantically.

In August, People reported she was seen on a date with a mystery man.

In the very same conversation with Dr. SHE MD, I openly discussed a baffling health predicament that I encountered during my early twenties while filming the Divergent series. This mystery issue left me feeling quite apprehensive.

During her work on a widely acclaimed science fiction series, Shailene openly discussed the challenges she faced, which included struggles such as temporary hearing loss, hypothyroidism, fainting episodes, food intolerances, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and symptoms related to past traumas.

She shared her experiences frankly, without explicitly mentioning the specific problem. Instead, she chose to discuss it in a more general context as it felt too private to reveal the details.

In my twenties, I found myself in a challenging situation. My hearing began to deteriorate significantly, and I could barely walk for more than five minutes without needing to rest for extended periods. I would sleep for hours after that. Whatever I ate caused discomfort in my stomach. It was a mix of various health problems, multiple diagnoses, and conflicting advice from different doctors. Given my background in holistic medicine and herbalism, I sought natural remedies to manage these issues.

Shailene further elaborated, stating that she collaborated not only with independent healers but also with genuine medical professionals, in an effort to uncover the root causes of her problems.

She continued: ‘And it was a long journey, about a decade of unwinding and healing and getting healthy. And throughout that decade, a lot of other things came from feeling so much discomfort physically, which was, my gosh, if everything I’m eating hurts my stomach, I’m now suddenly afraid of food.

Afterward, I found myself grappling with the complexities related to body dysmorphia, self-identity confusion, and feelings of safety within my personal space. This encompassed understanding my role, defining my identity, and figuring out what it means to feel secure in this body and skin of mine.

The actress shared later that the problem took care of itself physically, leaving her in good health now.
