Shadow Force

Perfect timing for Mother’s Day, Kerry Washington has a movie tailored just for you! It offers romance, strong family values, and yes, there are actual gunfights. Fresh from her role in Tyler Perry’s Netflix series “The Six Triple Eight,” the Emmy-winning actress is back with another film where she takes charge. This time, it’s a more entertaining watch, despite its intense R-rated violence and dramatic portrayal of her character’s relentless efforts to safeguard her son.

In the production by Lionsgate, titled “Shadow Force“, Washington teams up with Omar Sy, known for his role in “Lupin“. They portray a duo of high-profile international assassins who have left their employer in a bind, as they’ve walked away to start a family and now have a $25 million bounty on their heads. Can you believe it? MovieWeb had the chance to interview Washington to delve deeper into her upcoming action thriller and why scheduling the release of “Shadow Force” around Mother’s Day was an ideal choice.

In a different way of expressing the same idea: Washington said, “Parents often say things like, ‘I’d do anything for my kid.’ However, until you become a parent yourself, you can’t truly grasp this feeling – that intense, protective love that drives parents to go to any lengths to shield their children. So I found it intriguing to ponder: What if I were an accomplished killer and had the ability to actually kill for my child? What might such a scenario entail?

Washington added, “One aspect of the movie I appreciate is not only does it portray an amazing mom, but it also shows a strong dad taking on primary caregiving in the initial part. It’s heartening to witness a father who is tough yet tender, capable yet vulnerable – a role model for many fathers, including my husband. This representation of parenting is something I admire.

Family Chemistry Through “Fight Training”

In Kerry Washington’s current project, “Shadow Force,” her on-screen partner is Omar Sy. The duo seems to be enjoying themselves immensely throughout the film, and a standout moment occurs when Washington’s character, Kyrah, embarrasses her husband in terms of accuracy with firearms. Washington shared insights about her preparation for this action-packed role with us.

For several months, we underwent rigorous training, an enjoyable experience indeed! Interestingly, prior to the actual film rehearsals, Omar and I embarked on a journey of learning fight techniques and choreography. This preliminary fight training not only served as a means to familiarize ourselves but also to develop our unique rhythm, learn effective communication, and build trust – aspects that are evident in the movie. A significant portion of our camaraderie was forged during these combat training sessions.

Under the direction of Joe Carnahan, with co-writing credits for both Carnahan and Leon Chills, the upcoming action film titled Shadow Force features Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, alongside Kerry Washington and Omar Sy. The movie is set to hit theaters this coming Friday.
