Sgt. Rock: DCU Movie Loses Director But Gets Promising Update

The upcoming DC Universe movie starring Sgt. Rock has received an update, as revealed by James Gunn (co-head of DC Studios), who shared some unfortunate news regarding the original director of the film.

What is the latest Sgt. Rock update?

During a chat with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, James Gunn shared updates about Sgt. Rock’s movie project. Originally set to direct by Luca Guadagnino, he will no longer be involved, but the film is not necessarily cancelled.

Gunn expressed great enthusiasm about the possibility of the film coming back quickly, saying, ‘I’m genuinely thrilled about Sgt. Rock.’

The journey of a Sgt. Rock DCU film has been quite turbulent. Originally announced in 2024, with an Academy Award-nominated director like Guadagnino involved, and Justin Kuritzkes writing it, there were also rumors that Daniel Craig would play the main character. However, by early 2025, it was clarified that Craig had never agreed to the role, and it was actually Colin Farrell who was in discussions for the lead part.

The movie’s situation worsened further as production apparently stopped in April, according to recent reports. At this point, it’s uncertain where things are heading, but when Sgt. Rock resumes production, they will need to recruit a replacement for the director to take charge of the film set.

The character was developed by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and is portrayed as a hardened commander leading Easy Company, a military unit engaged in battles against Nazi forces in Europe.
