Sex Education’s Emma Mackey lands major role in new movie adaptation

Actress Emma Mackey, famously known for “Sex Education,” has secured her next significant film part, which reunites her with a fellow cast member from the movie “Barbie.

The performer is set to appear in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of “The Chronicles of Narnia” movie produced by Netflix, having previously worked together on a multi-million dollar, vibrant action film from Warner Bros.

She’ll be playing the villain Jadis, better known as the White Witch.

Previously, Tilda Swinton played the role that required a gown and scepter in the 2005-2010 trilogy. Although she only made brief appearances in “Prince Caspian” and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, it was as the character who turned people to stone, ruled harshly, and charmed children with Turkish Delight in “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”.

Instead, the Netflix-Gerwig Narnia movie isn’t another attempt to adapt The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but rather it is a film adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew.

The book, which is actually the sixth one published, but the first one within the Narnia timeline, functions as a direct prequel to “The Wardrobe.” This story, penned by C.S. Lewis, was written with the intention of providing an explanation for the mysterious lamppost found in a fantastical realm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the final decision for the role ultimately came down between Mackey and Margaret Qualley. This effectively debunks the speculation that Charli XCX would portray Jadis in the project.

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share the news: It appears Meryl Streep herself might lend her voice to the iconic character, Aslan! Moreover, Netflix plans a two-week theatrical release for the film before it streams, and it’s set to grace IMAX screens as well.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Mackey has a diverse array of projects in the works, each at different stages of development. Among these, an LGBTQ+ romance titled Ella McCay catches my interest, along with a political comedy. Additionally, there’s a film co-starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega that’s being helmed by JJ Abrams. Exciting times indeed!

As an ardent admirer, I must share that the upcoming Narnia film hasn’t set a release date yet, but fear not! The enchanting previous trilogy can be found and re-watched on Disney+.
