Sex And The City’s Kristin Davis Spills ‘Cult-Like’ Secrets and On-Set Nude Scene Pressure!

Kirstin Davis shared insights into the unusual guidelines they followed while filming Sex and the City with their co-stars.

In a recent episode of her podcast “Are You A Charlotte?”, the 60-year-old actress discussed the unusual, cult-like demands that surfaced on Monday’s broadcast. This conversation took place with Jenny Bicks, an Emmy-winning screenwriter who contributed to Sex and the City.

In the course of our conversation, Kristin (playing Charlotte York in HBO’s And Just Like That) shared insights about how the show’s creators gradually tightened the guidelines regarding what she and her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall could wear on set.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: In our chat, Kristin brought up an intriguing point – the dread she felt while revisiting episode eight of the show’s premiere season, fearing her skirt might slip unexpectedly. Kristin playfully remarked, “Pat still hasn’t gotten rid of the pantyhose,” alluding to the series creator, screenwriter, director, and executive producer, Michael Patrick King, who later directed the two movie spin-offs as well.

As a loyal member of the cast, I recall certain unusual aspects, almost as if I should keep it secret – there seemed to be some peculiar, cult-like guidelines we followed.

Kristin recalled one of King’s edicts as she shouted out, ‘No one will wear hose!’

She then listed some of the rules that were developed by her bosses as the series progressed.

‘No scrunchies. No banana clips,’ she added.

Later, Jenny playfully taunted Kristin by asking if she ever experienced embarrassment when sporting a banana clip outside of the program.

The actress playfully admitted that she continued to have concerns about it even after bathing, despite the fact that nobody would be observing her.

She emphasized that the rules were ‘little things’ that ‘came slowly’ to the show.

She mentioned that not everyone initially fit the description. They needed to be fishnet-style if they were to be included. We experienced a period where we were all about fishnets. Finding double layers of fishnets was fantastic. Discovering nude, double-layered fishnets was even better.

Kristin further disclosed an instance involving the height of women’s shoes, where actresses had to don high heels during their on-screen appearances.

I found it challenging to adapt swiftly to this alteration, as I stumbled quite a bit when wearing these extravagant high heels. As a committed adherent, I always strive to embrace changes promptly, but this one took me some time.

Kristin added her thoughts, stating that the rest of the cast often found themselves needing to match the exceptional performance of Sarah, who starred as Carrie Bradshaw and dominated the show.

The regulations specified very precisely the types of G-strings female performers could don, and they were obligated to wear stylish coats which had no practical use.

‘We could go down the list of approved brands and not approved brands. There was a lot,’ she said.

Kristin pointed out that the actresses couldn’t keep any of their costumes because many items were borrowed from well-known fashion brands, and these companies may not have offered similar deals again in the future if the clothing wasn’t returned.

Kristin confessed that she experienced a great deal of anxiety regarding the prospect of undressing in front of the camera, and she playfully dismissed Michael’s repeated requests for her to remove her shirt, responding with: “That’s alright. He’s aware.

She also discussed another moment in which she filmed her first completely nude scene.

The incident occurred within the narrative where Charlotte undergoes conversion to Judaism and enters a ritual immersion pool, known as a mikveh bath.

She remarked: “It played a crucial role in the plot development. Since it wasn’t related to sex, it was more acceptable to include nudity for a spiritual rather than sensual purpose.

However, she described the filming environment as uncomfortable.

On her recent ‘Are You a Charlotte?’ podcast, Kristin expressed her strong dislike for the plotline where the characters consumed French cheeses only to become ill and end up in the bathroom. Instead, she said, “I really disliked that story arc so much.

I approached Elisa Zuritsky and Julia Rottenberg, the episode’s writers, and asked them, ‘Is it necessary for us to proceed with this? Could you explain why?’

‘They were like, ‘It’s so funny.

It seems like the idea might have originated from an account where somebody traveled to France, encountered their rich cheeses, which are quite unfamiliar to us here.

I wasn’t fond of that situation. I didn’t feel comfortable being on the bathroom floor with Evan, wearing dirty T-shirts. Ewww!

I didn’t enjoy it at all. It was uncomfortable for me to be lying down in the bathroom with Evan, both of us in soiled shirts. Yuck!
