Severance boss Ben Stiller teases future beyond season 2
Director Ben Stiller has teased the future of his critically-acclaimed series Severance.
This science fiction series centers around workers at mysterious Lumon Industries, who’ve experienced a process that splits their consciousness into two distinct aspects – one for their professional life, which we call their ‘innie’, and another for their personal life, or their ‘outie’.
In the week of its release on January 17, the second season received almost a flawless rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and it’s been reported that they’ve already started working on a third season.
During a chat with Radio Times, Stiller shared insights about the upcoming season and hinted at some recurring characters in the third installment.
He expressed delight when discussing the show’s success, mentioning that many well-known actors and musicians have shown interest. In fact, he had a chat with Al Pacino, who happens to be a fan. If everything goes as planned, we might see him in the upcoming season. Fingers crossed for that possibility!
Showrunner Dan Erickson has revealed that the future of the series ‘Severance’ has been mapped out, however, he chose not to share any specifics about its potential duration.
According to Erickson, we’ve been planning the plotline quite extensively from the beginning. However, we prefer not to disclose the exact number of seasons; instead, we aim for a compact yet expansive narrative that allows for some flexibility.
He mentioned, “We were aware that season two would be released approximately when the new President would be sworn into office.
One key topic in this series is the power of charisma, particularly when it comes to figures like Kier Eagan from Lumon Industries. When enough people idolize someone, there can be a near-religious adoration, and we delve into the potential pitfalls of such devotion. This theme feels especially pertinent in today’s world.
Severance season two is available to watch now on Apple TV+ with new episodes releasing Fridays.
