Seven star Matt Doran opens up about his struggles with depression - after 'going missing' during report

As a dedicated follower of media personalities and their journeys, I am deeply moved by Matt Doran’s courageous decision to open up about his struggles with depression on national television. It takes a great deal of strength to share such personal experiences, especially when you are in the public eye.

I, a devoted follower, am sharing that Matt Doran, a renowned figure, recently shared his personal battles with depression on The Morning Show. His openness comes following growing worries about his mental well-being in the past few years.

41-year-old breakfast show host shared his struggles during their interview with psychologist and author Mark Cross on a Friday morning, alongside his co-host Kylie Gillies.

In the thrill of hearing a celebrated author discuss his new work, “Mental State,” focusing on Australia’s mental health care system, I couldn’t help but feel a profound connection, as I found myself, Matt, sharing my personal battle with depression.

Matt queried, “Do you believe we’re improving, Doctor, in the way you demonstrated by raising your hand and expressing, ‘I have an issue with anxiety’?”

For a while now, I’ve faced significant struggles with depression as well. However, it seems that many individuals find it challenging to openly admit this.

Dr. Cross remarked, “It’s truly impressive that you’re sharing your thoughts… the more we discuss this topic, the clearer and more insightful it becomes,” expressing admiration for Matt’s courage in publicly discussing his depression on TV.

In recent times, there have been worries about Matt due to him vanishing without a trace from his job on two distinct instances.

Last month, he didn’t show up at Seven Studios for his work on Weekend Sunrise, causing the producers to search frantically for a substitute host, according to The Daily Telegraph.

On Saturday, June 8, Chris Reason took over hosting duties for the breakfast show, as he had been brought in to replace the previous host, and co-hosted with Monique Wright.

A Channel Seven spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia at the time that Matt was ‘on leave’.

Matt went missing exactly a year ago, triggering an intense police investigation, as he disappeared while on a work trip in the Hunter Valley back in June of the previous year.

As a diligent follower, I should have been the one reporting live from the tragic scene of a wedding bus accident that took the lives of ten individuals on June 13th. Regrettably, I was unable to fulfill my duty and appear for my 5:30 am shift that day.

According to sources, when the producers attempted to locate Matt at his hotel in Singleton, their knocks were left unheeded.

Previously, the well-known crime journalist was spotted conversing with residents of Singleton at a nearby sports field where football matches take place.

Previously, residents noticed Matt exiting the residence of the recently wedded pair, Mitchell Gaffney and Maddy Edsell, whose nuptials were at the heart of the unfortunate incident.

As the reporter didn’t respond to phone calls, messages, or emails before his planned Sunrise appearance, a producer decided to visit his hotel room instead.

Worried colleagues contacted police, who issued a missing persons alert.

Matt, after some time, was discovered at a local café, and his spot on-air was quickly taken over by his coworker Liam Tapper.

Experts speculate that multiple aspects might have influenced his disturbing actions, with one theory hinting at the possibility that Matt found it challenging to cope with the harrowing aftermath of the bus accident during the wedding.

Matt had a prolonged period of absence, approximately several weeks, following his disappearance in the Hunter Valley. It’s said that during this time, he focused on improving his well-being by staying at home.

He was replaced by his colleague Michael Usher on Weekend Sunrise.

Matt transitioned to Seven Network in 2017, following nearly eight years of service in Network Ten’s news department. Initially, he began his journalism career at the Herald Sun as a police reporter.

After two years, he ascended to his present position as a co-host on Weekend Sunrise, sharing the spotlight with Monique Wright. Prior to this, he had occasionally stood in for the weekday host, David Koch.
