Seth, The Last Of Us Season 2’s Most Hated Character, Surprisingly Saves The Day
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us season 2, episode 3.
In “The Last of Us,” Seth, a character often disliked by viewers, experiences an unexpected journey towards redemption during season 2’s latest episode titled “The Path.” This episode follows the aftermath of last week’s intense installment, where three months have passed since Joel was killed and Jackson was devastated by the infected. The town is now rebuilding, Ellie is healing from her injuries, and those close to Joel are coping with their loss.
Once Ellie steps out of the hospital with a positive report on her health, all she can think about is seeking retribution. Her target is Abby and her companions who had taken the life of her father figure. However, it’s not within her control; it depends on the decision made by Jackson’s town council. In an unexpected turn, even Seth expresses strong support for Ellie in her quest for revenge.
The Last Of Us Season 2 Gives Seth An Unexpected Redemption Arc
Seth Advocates For Justice For Joel
In the opening episode of season 2, similar to a scenario in the game, when Dina kissed Ellie at the New Year’s bash, Seth reacted with a derogatory term against them. This led Joel to push him. The following day, Maria managed to extract a half-hearted apology from Seth, who attributed his prejudice to being drunk. However, Ellie wouldn’t accept it. These scenes are quite similar to those in the game, but in “The Path”, they added a few additional moments that made Seth appear more endearing and less antagonistic than he was portrayed in the game.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, let me rephrase that for you: In the video game version, Seth vanished mysteriously following his lukewarm apology. However, in the TV adaptation, he delivers an emotional speech advocating for Joel’s justice (despite the fact that Joel had assaulted him physically). He also assists Ellie and Dina in their escape to Seattle. To my surprise, even Ellie, who was initially cold towards him, begins to soften her stance towards Seth. This episode made me see a less detestable side of Seth, something I never thought I’d experience while following the storyline of The Last of Us.
The Last Of Us Part 2 Game Provides A Good Reason Why Seth Wants Justice For Joel’s Murder
Most Of Seth’s Family Were Murdered On The Journey To Jackson
In The Last of Us Part II, when a player initially assumes command of Abby, she’s navigating a snowy wilderness beyond Jackson, searching for the closest patrol. In an abandoned building, she discovers a letter from Seth that uncovers the fact that most of his family were slain during their voyage to Jackson. This sheds light on why Seth is so determined that Joel should be brought to justice in the latest episode of The Last of Us – as he never received justice for those he cherished because they did not receive justice for the people they cared about.
